We booked Hostal Atenas on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Granada. Booking online was easy. The web site is excellent. We drove there for a mid-week visit. There were lots of yellow road signs to the Hostal around the city centre which helped us to find it easily and we were able to get a space in their underground parking (at the top of the street which runs alongside the Hostal). They had declined to book us a parking space in advance, but we got one OK when we arrived, 15 Euros for 24 hours. They actually let us park for longer without extra charge, which enabled us to visit the Alhambra next day. Staff spoke English and the cost for each double room (all our rooms had 3 single beds) was 30 Euros per night. Can't be bad !
The sheets on my bed were, I thought, a little grubby and I felt itchy all night, so didn't sleep well, but it may have been psychological. The beds were hard too. General room cleanliness was very good. Any staff we met were friendly and helpful and although there is no on-house catering, there are plenty of bars/cafes/restaurants close by.
As an easily accessible, cheap base right in the centre of Granada, Hostal Atenas can't be beaten. NB Spanish Hostals, in our experience, are not like the "Hostels" used by backpackers which you find in many European countries. A Hostal is really more like a no-frills hotel and in some cases they are actually motels - generally clean and very good value, some with in-house catering, some with eateries nearby. Recommended.

Right in the centre of Granada, really clean but basic. Lots of families staying there as well as younger travellers. Beds were ok. I would definately return as it was well worth it for the price i paid (90 euros for three nights with private bathroom) I probably wouldn't bother paying the extra for the private bathroom next time as the bathrooms were cleaned daily and were really clean. Also had internet access that was 1 euro for 30 mins use and a vending machine with water, soft drinks and beer.

I stayed in this hostal with 2 other friend for 2 nights. We were a bit unsure what to expect considering all the bad reviews but we ended up pretty happy with the place.
We paid 40 euros a night for a triple room (with bathroom) which I think was extremely cheap. Both the room and the bathroom were quite large and everything was clean. The bathroom especially was spotless and they changed our towels daily.
The room overlooked an interior courtyard so there was no noise from the street but I presume during the day it didn't have much natural light either. That has not bothered us as we were in Granada to see as much as possible in our short time there but it might be a problem for a longer stay.
The staff was ok, hey answered our questions and gave us directions when needed but we did speak with them in spanish so language was not a problem.
All in all I would definitely recommend this place for people who want a very cheap, clean room to sleep in for a few days while seeing Granada and of course the Alhambra which I have to say it's a must see for anyone.

Best location, very clean and modern room with balcony on main road Gran Via. Wi fi free in the whole building. Very, very cheap...
