“Never going there again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Definitely one of the worst and oldest hotels I've been in Europe. Besides a convenient location, the room condition and especially the bad decor (red patterned curtains) was terrible. Heater was not working properly and it was working like an air-conditioner in winter. So, it's freaking cold in the room so I did not get a good sleep. Not enough power sockets in the room so I had to use the ones in the toilet to charge my mobile. Thank goodness, we stayed only 1 night as part of the tour.

“A scorcher in the summer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

Our firm travels to Granada seveal times a year and we have often stayed at the Aben Humeya, largely because of the discount they offer us. For 3 stars, the hotel is not bad. However, it has increasingly become a scorcher in the summer. The air conditioning continues to deteriorate and last weekend was unbearable. The vast majority of our rooms were too hot to permit meaningful sleep-which makes the entire visit a disagreeable affair. There are other hotels with reasonable prices and functioning A/C. I can't imagine us returning to this establishment.

“Poor service; good meals across the road in Mama Mia”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

The 3 star rating is misleading. The rooms are spartan with interiors that have perhaps never been done up. The service would at best rate just about 2 star.

At breakfast, we found that tea cups were missing - we were asked to take a bowl that was kept for cereals. Yogurt was over and we were told that the supermarket would not open till 9=30 a.m. Some of our group were vegetarians and cheese was kept piled with salami. Poor service in a moderately occupied restaurant

Good food - only that it is across the road in a restaurant called Mamma Mia.

“For those on a budget who want a good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. We are in our mid thirties and don't have a big budget when holidaying, so we needed something affordable but suitable. The Aben Humeya was pretty basic, with certainly outdated decor, however it was in a great location - just a short walk from the remaining gates of the old Moorish wall. The rooms had comfy beds, a tv and a decent bathroom. We were facing the street and this did get its fair share of noise from night time revellers, but to be honest, when you're visiting Granada you'll be so full of food and wine that a heavy night's sleep is guaranteed.

The one factor I didn't like about the hotel is that any person can easily walk in from off the street and wander its halls. The reception desk is far back from the entrance, so this was something they could improve. But, the maids cleaned our room every day, towels were starched and again, the beds were (surprisingly) exceptionally comfortable. For those on a budget, you'd be hard pressed to do better. Plus, you'll only come back to the room to sleep, so why book something extravagent?

“Great value - good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2009

This hotel is in a great location, just a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Granada passing lots of shops and lovely parks on the way.

It is quite a small hotel, the reception and bar are dark and a bit cramped but the staff made up for it as they were pleasant and even with just a soft drink they supplied free tapas.

Our room 203 was large and while the view was not exceptional on to the main road, it was quiet. The bathroom a little dated was clean and the toiletries were good quality.

Overall a good tourist hotel in a really good location. I will go back to Granada as we only managed an overnight to see the Alhambra and would certainly stay here again.
