“Fresh Sierra Air”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed 4 nights in Dec at this Hotel. Our room was very new and I think the entire floor must have recently been renovated.
Our room had the beautiful morning sun and we would leave the windows open for the fresh Sierra Air.
It was also spacious although a bit oddly shaped. Not quite a rectangle and more like a triangle.

The water and the whole bathroom had a weird sewer smell but we decided to stay in the room because of the windows and the morning sun.
The aforementioned 'smell' maybe a Spanish issue in that our Barcelona hotel also had the same odor when turning on the faucet!

The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

But, I loved the location. Right across from Alhambra.
There is a beautiful trail from right next to Alhambra to the river. You cross the river if you make a right go up will come upon the Camino del Sacramonte (another right). Or you can just go straight up and veer left and start finding your way at the Mirador De San Nicholas.
Mirador de San Nicholas is a must for the best views of Granada.

The hotel itself is on top of the hill so it is quite a hike.
We (my husband and 5 year old boy) enjoyed that too.
But there are 'Alhambra' buses that are frequent and inexpensive that will take you all the way up and 100 feet away from the hotel.
The hike down is much easier because there are some stairs right next to the Hotel Alhambra Palace.

Apparently, in the winter time there isn't much in the way way of open restaurants in the area but the hotel has a nice restaurant and bar.

WiFi is only functional in the lobby.

I would not mind staying at Hotel Guadalupe again.

“Good for a visit to the Alhambra but not for a longer stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

The pictures on the website show the main hotel but be aware that there is also an Annex further up the hill with access up a small flight of steps – not good if you have a heavy suitcase! It seems to be where the hotel sticks its tour groups, like Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. You will also need a swipe card to access the Annex outside “shopping” hours and if you are sharing you will have to coordinate with your room mate as there is just 1 key and card per room. Twin rooms in the Annex are a reasonable size with hanging space, doubles are small and singles even smaller, including singles in the main hotel [though those have duvets]. Avoid bedrooms 217 and 218 which are next to a very noisy air conditioning/heating system which cuts in and out more or less the whole time – the hotel staff know it is noisy. Most of the baths are small – so small that even if you are short you cannot sit in the bath with your legs outstretched, only with your knees up! Breakfast is cold buffet style. If you are staying here as a member of a tour group you might want to check out the evening catering or opt out (you’ll need to go into town to eat – a 20 min walk down a steep hill or take bus 31 or 32 for EUR 1.2 each way if running). An example of one of our “group” evening meals was lasagne with a very little minced pork, a quarter of a cold tortilla [egg and potato pancake) with 3 slices of tomato followed by a bowl of custard with a biscuit on top – described by tour leader as ‘nursery food for children’. There is some seating around reception and a bar area serving snacks and coffee, tea, soft and alcoholic drinks. It was often unmanned at mealtimes (bar staff seem to double up as waiters in the dining room) so if no one is there go to reception and ask for them to send someone. This 3* hotel is very convenient for a visit to the Alhambra and you can park nearby. However, if you are here for any more than a day/Alhambra visit you may want to stay in the city so that you can easily reach the Albaicin and other attractions too, and have access to a range of restaurants, tapas bars etc. You can by a pass from bus drivers which is much cheaper and it can be for 1 or 2 persons. There is a refundable fee of EUR 2 for the card, then put on the amount you think you will use. A single city centre trip with the pass is about EUR 0.69 against EUR 1.20 if you pay cash on boarding. Just remember to hand back the card to the driver when finished and he’ll return the deposit paid.

Room Tip: AVOID rooms 217 and 218 - VERY noisy

“Great location near the Alhambra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Very nice hotel very close to the Alhambra. Nice lobby. Friendly staff. However the walls are paper thin and we could hear a child screaming in the wee hours. The rooms are small for three adults, but your not there to spend the day in your room. you may have to set your GPS for the parking at Alhambra to find this hotel, but it is sooo worth it. It is part way down the hill, and they share parking with the Alhambra. Do not try to park at the hotel, there is no parking. Tell attendant at the Alhambra lot that you are staying at the hotel and they will directly you, then park, and walk across the lot to the hotel.
To go into the city center, hope on the minibus #30 1.20 euro each way. Very easy and a fun ride. To go to the Albayzin area take the 32 bus to the top. and walk down the hill to town.
If you can wait, have breakfast in town, much less expensive.

Room Tip: see above about parking

“Minutes from the Alhambra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

We stayed here for 1 night and enjoyed this hotel. It is literally minutes from the Alhambra, an amazing location, especially for the price. It has a very nice bar where we had a delicious, reasonably priced pizza, and a separate restaurant where we had a good breakfast. The staff was friendly enough and helpful. We had been assigned a room on the second floor facing the street with a very modern decor and a strange smell. When we complained we were immediately shown a beautiful, traditionally decorated room on the fourth floor, with a balcony facing an olive grove, which we happily took and loved! Our experience at the Guadalupe was very positive, though it would not have been if we hadn't been able to change rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel have balconies and face a lovely olive grove and to the right the...

“Huge room, great price. What a pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Travelling with one child poses some challenges in Spain since most hotels don't allow a third person in a room. Guadalupe Hotel met our needs and exceeded our expectations! Our room (second floor at the top of the stairs, facing the Alhambra) was spacious and well appointed. Nothing fancy, but very nicely decorated, quiet and comfortable. We had a king bed, plus a twin bed and ample floor space that would have easily accommodated a third bed. The bathroom with modern and lovely. We were told at the front desk that we had a "view", however, our view consisted of a roof-top air conditioning unit and the trees between us and the Alhambra parking lot. The Alhambra was directly across the street from the hotel. And once we found the back path to town, we could walk safely to the city in 5-10 minutes. (Go through the outdoor cafe on the grounds outside the Alhambra and proceed to the path up ahead on the left.) The city of Granada doesn't feel like the safest place to outsiders, but the area where Guadalupe Hotel is located felt safe day and night. I was so glad we stayed here instead of in a more expensive hotel in downtown Granada. But if you want nightlife right next door, you may prefer to stay in the city or the Albycin. Front desk service was wonderful, however, I would not recommend the dining room for breakfast. Not very good. (The roof-top outdoor restaurant a few doors down the street had great food!)

Room Tip: Ask for specifics on the view if you prefer a room with a view. The front desk seems to think any ro...
