We stayed at Melia Granada for 2 nights. The hotel is in a great location and within walking distance to attractions. We walked to the Cathedral, Alhambra, Albayzin...Granada is not a huge city so things were fairly close.
The staff at the hotel were not friendly and seemed annoyed if i asked them anything. The rooms were large by European standards, but a little older and not as clean as other places. The layout of the bathroom was weird with the bidet right where you would step out of the shower. The walls were very thin. We could actually hear the neighbor snoring all night. Bring earplugs!!! A plus is there is free wifi in the lobby, just ask the front desk for a password.
We ate at La Oliva, which was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Make sure you make reservations if you plan to eat there. We also ate on Calle Navas. El Enganche Taberna was one of our favorite places in Spain. Croquettes were good, the clams were amazing. La Vianda was okay but we mostly got fried items and the menu was small. We also tried Manolo Restaurante in Bib Rambla, which was absolutely horrible.
Beds comfortable -good value and right in the centre of town. Always remember to let reception know if you have come by car as otherwise you may get fined for taking your car into the centre. Free Internet in reception area if you ask for it. Breakfast ok
I stayed at the hotel on December 27-28. This hotel is centrally located in Granada and the reception area is very nice. Unfortunately, when we arrived our safe did not work and the technician was unable to fix the safe. We were moved to a second room where the safe did not work, the TV did not work and no wifi connection was available from that room. They were able to fix the safe and TV but not the internet. Although from the pictures the bathroom looks really nice, when you walk in, it feels cramped and cheaply refinished. The beds were extremely stiff and were uncomfortable to sleep in. Upon check-in the receptionist tried to sell us two very expensive tours that were not worth the price or value. The staff and receptionist were not able to help us in any way. I would not stay in this hotel again or recommend this hotel.
We spent one night at this hotel in late December and were very pleased. Although its a bit hard to find and drive to the first time, once you're there, everything is accessible on foot or a very short and inexpensive taxi/bus ride. There's an abundance of taxis one street over from the hotel, and bus stops are also close by. We asked for a courtesy upgrade with rooms looking toward the Alhambra. We were placed on the 5th floor, and the Alhambra was visible at an angle. Our room overlooked a small plaza where partygoers gather, so you can hear voices late into the night. There's also a glass bottle disposal point in that plaza, so you'll briefly hear a ton of bottles being processed late at night. The hotel has a luxury feel, and our room was very nice but on the small side. The breakfast was very complete and tasty, and they'll even make fresh omellettes if you request them. The staff was also very courteous and helpful. Since the hotel is located in a "restricted area", you must notify the hotel staff of our car's license plate number, otherwise your car will be tickted for driving into a restricted zone. There is a parking garage next to the hotel, which is not part of hotel. If you take your parking ticket to the front desk of the hotel, they will stamp it so that you can enter and exit without paying extra. The stamp allows you to park for a 24hr period, for 18 Euros. We arrived around 7pm on a Tuesday, and vacated the parking garage around 6:40pm the following day, and paid 18Euros. Failure to get your ticket stamped can result in higher parking fees. If you like shopping at the Corte Ingles, there's one very close to the hotel, in addition to many other stores, boutiques and cafes. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel. If you're not a MAS loyalty card holder, you can apply right at the front desk. The card allows you to enjoy 2 breakfast for the pice of one.
The good: Great location within walking distance of city center, alhambra, cathedral, and many other must see touristy areas. Has free wifi in the lobby that we could sometimes get onto while in our room. The room was large.
The bad: You can hear the people in the rooms around you clearly. One night we heard a man snoring all night, another night we heard a man talking on the phone loudly, and on another night we heard a couple having an argument. For the price of the hotel we would have expected the rooms to be a little more sound proof. In my opinion the hotel needs to be renovated. The carpets are worn out, the fixtures in the bathroom look old, and the toilet runs constantly.
Overall: The hotel was acceptable but not worth the 153 Euros we paid to stay there.
