We spent two wonderful days in Granada at the Hotel Carmen de Santa Ines. We are frequent visitors to Granada and usually stay at the Parador, but this year we were too late to secure a booking 'up on the hill', so went in search of somewhere relaxing and comfortable in the Albaycin, as we had taken my mother (who is eighty-six) and my sister along. We were not disappointed! Yes, the hotel is difficult to find, but if you follow their directions and stop and ask if you get stuck, you should have no problems .... it's well worth the effort!
Once through the huge and ancient oak front door you are in a haven of peace and tranquility. The furnishings and art work are an eclectic mix of interesting modern and comfortable antique. It's worth a visit just to see the architecture, soak in the atmosphere and to sit in the beautiful little garden.
We had rooms 3 and 5. Both were spacious and well appointed with larger than average bathrooms (with bath and shower) and comfortable sitting areas. Room 3 had an excellent view of the Alhambra. The balcony in room 5 looks out onto a little lane.
Breakfast was simple, but adequate, a variety of breads, cereals, yoghurts, conserves and fruit.
When we return to Granada, we'll be staying at the Hotel de Santa Ines rather than the Parador .......and save ourselves a few bob!
