Room - The room I had in this hotel was great - the view of the Albaicin and of the Alhambra was priceless. It had a balcony over which I watched the sunrise light up the terracotta rooves of the Albaicin, and I watched the sunset against the Alhambra and saw the Alhambra lit up at night. The room was very large and had windows on 2 sides (3 double doors on one wall facing the balcony). I dont think that the other rooms are like this.
Reception - reception for this hotel is in another hotel. There was a lovely English girl who assisted, but the Spanish staff were not particularly competent.
Hotel - the hotel is old, and taking bags up and down the stairs is a bit tricky. Largely the upper hotel (in which I stayed) is unattended and has a buzzer system which lets you in. The house is a merchant's house and has the original well (covered) in the courtyard. It also has a small courtyard garden which is tranquil and pretty. Rundown but shabby chic?
Breakfast - breakfasts were ok but it would be better to grab something elsewhere. They were in the main hotel.
Location - it is tricky to find - taxis navigate to close by but then drop you off. Also, if you haven't stayed in the Albaicin before, note that it is very easy to become lost in (which is fine unless it is dark and everything begins to look the same - when in doubt find a taxi - they know the streets and hotels very well and are great at finding your hotel in the labyrinth).
I would highly recommend the room that I had, and I really like the hotel.
