“Definnitely would stay again :)”

Hello there again - now anyone reading my reviews will know that I try to be as balanced as possible to give a reasonable overview of a particular place.

I try to give the good, the not so good and the downright bad. In the case of El Velero I am broadly positive.

I Arrived on a Friday afternoon at about 2pm to be told I could not check in until 4pm. In fairness, the girl on reception offered me a room to leave the suitcase in for a few hours so all was fine. The staff at reception are always very polite and helpful.

I checked in a while later to a room with a view of a hideous building and the worst sofa bed I have ever seen . Needless to say I changed to a much nicer room. This second room was perfect, clean and had a nice view over the pool area.

Ok the good things about this place are as follows:

The apartments are fairly spacious, with a big living room, double bedroom with adequate wardrobe space for most people. The room was spotlessly clean on arrival and the bathroom is basic, clean and functional. The kitchen was fairly well equipped with coffee machine, toaster, fridge etc and enough basis utensils to make a basic meal. Yes, I do agree with others who have reviewed stating that the kitchen is small; it is but its ok for a holiday.

El velero has wifi signal which works about 70 per cent of the time and its free!

There is always lots of hot water which is nice and the pressure in the shower is good also.

The location of El Velero is okay too with shops, supermarket and restaurants all within a 5 minute walk. It is in a quiet residential area and feels safe at night.

The pool area is nice, kept very clean and despite other reviews it does get the sun until about 7 in the evening, which is about all you need eh?

Ok now for some grumbles: The aforementioned sofa was vile, I would not let my dog sleep on it - and I don’t even have a dog!

There is no bar at the complex, and the sauna is never open; these minor issues did not pose a problem for me.

If you stay here, expect about a 15 minute walk to the beach, this can be a struggle for some but there is a lift to take you back up to town if needed. In fairness El Velero is very close to the town centre and very near some nice squares for good coffee and people watching.

Various reviewers have commented on the reluctance of El Velero to provide toilet paper - again I agree with these comments - in fact, I stayed here for 3 week and ended up having to buy toilet paper. The cleaning service is not great, the apartment was serviced once a week. On one occasion, this included maids stealing a packet of cigarettes and standing on my favourite pen, breaking it. Small things but a minor irritation.

Another small gripe is the €15 charge per week to rent the old fashioned key operated safe. I have always preferred the key coded ones, which are a bit better. These should be included free-of-charge. Key codes also mean one does not have to hide the key!

I was also asked to pay a security deposit of €100 after I had checked in and moved room. I declined being of an age where I am not the ‘trash the apartment’ type. Having made my case they relented.

In summary, yes I would stay here again. This place is clean, basic and good value. If they addressed some of the minor issues it would be even nicer. But broadly speaking its fairly good.

Please feel free to contact me about this or any of my other reviews.

“Experimental called El Velero”

The boss of the hotel does not speak english at all,and he works himself at the reception almost daily,so it was quite hard to ask anything from him, since I don't speak good Spanish at all... The younger workers did speak english though..
Location itself is quite good, eventho it can be a bit confusing especially if you're visiting Torremolinos for the first time, but you will get over with it in some days. ;)
What I didn't like is,my hotel room terrace was onto the outside side of the hotel, where you can see the sea etc. due to the constant noise from people/cars during nights (especially during weekends),and I'm an allergic person on some flowers/tree's when they're "seeding".
And this is very bad if you get the room on the sea-view side of the hotel.
Everytime I would go on the balcony,my nose would start to bleed immediately and I would be sneezing all the time,as long as I'd stay on the balcony..
Must have had something to do with the big trees etc. you see growing there, because the moment I went inside and left outside to go to shopping/beach,my allergic reactions stopped almost immediately...
A pity, since I really wanted to enjoy my breakfast on the balcony. :)
Else nothing bad to say about this hotel, but I was surprised sometimes at night time, when
you'd return to the hotel you wouldn't see anyone behind the reception at all (anyone could go in,and sneak around) and at other times the reception workers were sitting on a sofa, watching tv..
So make sure to book that safety locker on this hotel, eventho it costs a bit too much in my opinion.

Oh,one BIG DISADVANTAGE is... Be advised...
You will only get ONE key for your hotel room,no matter how many persons.

I got one day locked inside,as my friend has left earlier in the morning outside to walk around (with the room key on him),and the cleaners came.. they somehow double-locked the door when they left, and I couldn't open the door from inside..
Calling the reception was pointless since there was this "no habla ingles" guy working. :)
Instead I phoned my friend whom came and unlocked me out. :P

It is very basic accomodation, but it provides you with everything you need and the price is more than reasonable. Our room was on 7th floor and we had nice sea view from our balcony. The location is very comfortable for the beach and for the town centre too. The staff was nice and friendly, but the night staff did not speak any English. Would recommed and would return.

“Good fit for Andalusia family getaway / Dobry wybór na andaluzyjskie rodzinne wakacje”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Apartments strongly advisable because of the quality / price ratio. Nice Room Service at the reception, who was very helpful and honest. Rooms cleaned every two days (including changing towels). Complimentary wireless internet access and a pretty good view from balcony.
Location close to downtown and the beach is about 10-15min walk. Kitchenette equipped with everything you need (fridge, cooker, microwave, coffee maker, crockery and cutlery). A small pool at the hotel is not always in the sun, but enough to cool off and get some tan. Generally speaking: for this price for a family getaway I can confidently recommend this location. This is not a luxury hotel on the beach, but with intensive stay in Andalusia quite enough:) I'm really satisfied!

“Good basic accommodation”

Just come back from El Velero apartments and thought I'd write a review as there is a few bad ones.I couldn't really fault the room for what I paid, it was very clean, spacious and well equipped. The kitchen has kettle, toaster, coffee maker, microwave and two electric rings. The freezer easily froze water. There was enough pots and pans if you wanted to cook your own food. The beds were comfortable and had extra pillows if needed. There was plenty of storage and hanging space for clothes. The shower was also very good not a little trickle but quite powerful.I would have preferred to be on bottom level of torremolinos as the walk up and down the steps everyday to the beach is quite exhausting although there is a lift for 50 cents well worth it going back up! You have to go to beach as there is no sun on the pool and its only small. The sunbeds on beach expensive 4.50 euros per bed.All in all enjoyed my stay and thought they were very good two star apartments I've been in 3 and 4 stars that were not as nice as these. The apartments are just a short walk to all the nice shops, bars, cafes and the square.I really don't know what some people want from their accommodation but these are great as a base. How much time do you want to spend in your room, you're on holiday go out and enjoy it !
