“Wasn't disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We've passed this hotel often and, knowing it's history of being one of the original "hot spots" in the tourist boom in the 60's, we've always fancied having a few days there.
It was a really nice place to stay. We had room 411 which was right at the end of the corridor and overlooked the beach. Nice big room, but as stated elsewhere, perhabs needing a little bit of TLC to get it up to 4 * standard. Room was HUGE and clean and tidy but 2 little niggles. The shower was PATHETIC. Maybe being at the end of the corridor didn't help. Also the balcony, whilst having a great outlook was pretty small and the 2 chairs and little table just about filled it up. Apart from that , the TV had Sky News and BBC1 and ITV so if you needed to catch up it was there.
The public areas are quite grand with the main lobby being about 100 metres long with a beautiful marble floor.
The 2 bars were quite quiet as the clientel seemed to be mostly Spanish pensioners on a (subsidised??) holiday. However, the barmen were very smart, efficient and cheery. Prices not too bad either.
The dining experience was fine. Breakfast the usual buffet stuff with very good service from the waiting staff in their smart outfits.
Evening meals were fine too, for a buffet. Plenty of choices each night and quality was good. The house wine at 7.95 euros a bottle was a snip.
We didn't fancy the night time entertainment (Keyboard/singer stuff) so can't comment.
Good flat walking along the prom either to Torremolinos to the left or Benalmadena to the right seemed to be a very popular pastime during the day although the resort was very quiet at night. All in all a nice way to spend a few days away from the Scottish weather. I'd go back .

“GREAT WINTER BREAK.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Just returned from a weeks holiday in the Pez. Stayed here many times & still as good as ever. Rooms are a bit dated but cleaned well everday . Its nice to see a few more English channels on the tv.We had 6 days good sunshine & was great to sit on balcony after we returned from our day out to sit in the sun trap balconies. I would advise getting a garden pool view as the other side is not good in my opion. We thought the food was great, both breakfast & eve meal. The entertainment is a bit hit & miss this time of year, the best being the flamenco dancers. We thought all staff was good. It would be nice for the fridge & safe to be free, as most 4 star hotels these days are offering this. One more point would be to have free wifi in all rooms. Many hotels have updated there internet to this, so come on Pez catch up with the times. All in all great time.

Room Tip: Choose garden / pool view or you will be dissapointed.

“Not a bad stay really”

We stayed here during the winter months, and were quite impressed with the hotel on first inspection. However it had rained quite hard on the day we arrived and upon being shown to our room which was OK with a view of the beach area, we noticed a light odour of sewage. When we mentioned this to the front desk we were told that it was because of the torrential rain the area had received during the day. This proved to be accurate as we didn't notice this again during our stay as the weather improved. The food was good, entertainment most nights. Hotel situated in a lovely area, great for shops, night life and good restaurants. The only other thing was the beds were a bit hard, but that didn't stop us from sleeping well, as the hotel is not situated in a noisy area, but also it must be remembered that we were there in February.

“terrible hotel”

just returned from this hotel and it was terrible the worst hotel we have stayed in,the room was dirty and the balcony only had room for 2 chairs,we had a resident pidgeon that left dirt and feathers that was never cleaned the carpet and floors were dirty, and the room faced the service area, requested another room to be told by unhelpful and rude staff it would cost another 70 euros, this is not 4 star more 2 star it is living on its past it either needs pulling down or total refurbishment, dont believe what the brochure says,i have holidayed with thomson for over 30 years and this was by far the worst hotel we have stayed in.the bath had many chips in the enemal it looked dirty and the shower was as fast as a watering can,im sorry to be so negative this is the first time i have written a review as i feel so strongly about our experience.the only good side was a good week regarding the weather.you have been warned.it was also full of elderly spanish who seemed to get preferential treatment and the english residents treated with contempt

“If it where free i wouldnt go there again.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Have stayed at the Pez previously... but gave it a miss for 3 years, couldnt remember why... so we have just had another 8 days there... and then i remembered....be the very last time as well.

The rooms have had a lick of paint, that's all the improvement we could see, the beds are dropping to pieces with the bases dirty and ripped. The balcony was lovely and sunny which you pay a premium for. Nothing else is 4 *

The food wasnt good, loads of complaints...it was only ever warm at the best of times, had to queue to get in the restuarant and gave up after 15/20 mins and went back later... the hotel was less than a 1/4 full as well... they didnt set the tables ( about 100 spare in the dining room,)... but no staff to to set or clear away the dishes... hence the wait.

They have a loyalty scheme at Medplaya... every time you go you get points ..it takes many visits to save up... which you can spend on drinks, t.shirt etc ... we had quite a few points and the rep told us we had to use some or lose them... so we had vouchers for some soft drinks... going into the hotel bar(frankies) to spend the so called vouchers... you were treated like 2nd class citizens when you passed these over... instead of the staff thinking here is a loyal customer that keeps coming back... i went to the bar and asked for 2 cokes.... gave the voucher... he plonked the drinks on the bar and walked off.... usually its a sit down service and they come and serve you... i had to carry these out onto the terrace... no hardship... but as an oap with a disabled husband in a wheelchair it went against the grade a tad...but then again im ENGLISH..... the spanish got great treatment along with any Germans ect..... and they got nuts and sweets with their drinks, even when we paid cash we never got any.

I handed the comments sheet in at the reception desk when we where leaving, i didnt put any nasty comments just said the food was warm not hot... and no i wouldnt be coming back and no i couldnt recommend it...it asks you these questions i was honest... i could have gone to town really but i didnt.... anyway the elderly sour faced female on the reception desk had a read of it shown it to the other staff and blatantly all had a laugh in front of us.... this was while they were dealing with another english couple who where complaing and getting nowhere ( poor devils have got another 3 weeks there).
This elderly reception female (not a Lady) and some male staff also are arragant, ignorant and totally lack people skills regarding the English.

Great position on the beach.... but a night club at the other end, nothing to do with the Pez.... it starts at 10 p.m till 6 a.m and the music just thumps out and the nightclubbers are on the street talking loudly when they come out for a smoke... it was 8 a.m when it went quite.... its open Thurs/Fri/Sat nights.

The weather was great... the walks on the prom... the English guests were great... which had nothing to do with the Pez.... so NO i dont recommend it.

I wouldnt recommend it, its a 2* at best... living on its 1960's reputation, when it was probaby great.

Room Tip: Dont bother.
