“decent place but definitely not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed in Hotel Sol Principe for 4 nights in January.
The hotel has some positive things about it: nice location close to the beach, though not that close to the town center; decent food at breakfasts, lunches and dinners, polite staff at the reception and cleaning rooms.
Maybe the hotel deserves a higher rating, but I would give it a 3-star for the following reasons.
1) I lived on the top 10th floor, and because the heating system was probably going from the ground floor up to the top, it did not quite reach my room, and I was freezing at nights (January nights are quite cold), even with air con turned warm. Same problem with water in the bathroom - most of it was cold. The room itself was quite simple and maybe would look better after some refubrishment
2) I mentioned that hotel staff was polite. It it true, they were helpful and friendly, but they were also sometimes absent-minded. On one occasion a reception manager kindly offered to check available tennis courts in the area and book the time. But she forgot to do it during her shift (!) and it took us some time the next day to explain what we want to the next desk-manager (not everyone at the reception desk is fluent in English). To be fair, the were crowds of people at the hotel at the time, and the staff were really busy all the time. But still the rule is simple: you promise something to the guest - you do it.
It is a decent place, overall, maybe I would not complain much if the room was warmer :-)

We have stayed at the principe for eight yrs and aways found staff very good and superb rooms, the entertainment has gone down hill too much flintstones. The food though good acks variety if staying for long. One downside now charging for sea view rooms etc which is putting prices up, bar prices high compared with other hotels. Some of the lounge area needs tobe updated. Actual position superb

Room Tip: High floors superb views, but with glass encl balconies may not be suited for those not liking heigh...

Stayed here for a week October 10 - 16 me the mrs and my two lads 6 and 8.
Found a good price on the internet so went for it.
Hotel was great just across the road from a long sandy beach.
Our room was a medium to small size but the bathroom was big.
Cleaned well every day, Kids pool always spotless.
Coffee machine on every floor handy for first thing.
We ate nearly all our meals here the staff were all good with the kids and the range of dishes made sure they found something they liked. The grilled meat was so good I could eat it every night.
This was one of those places you feel you got lucky.
Will think of returning.

“Great family hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stayed 23 - 30 September. Travelled with daughter and grandson. Gave the coach transfer a miss and took a taxi from Malaga airport - cost 12 euros and well worth it. Room was very clean and bright, but rather tight on space with a 'camp bed' for my three year old grandson. We wedged the camp bed between the two singles so he didn't fall out. This meant that floor space was limited, but we don't spend much time in the room, unless sleeping, so it wasn't a great problem. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was fabulous - so much choice, and it was always fresh. We spent a lot of time at the children's pools which were very clean, very large compared to ones at other hotels we've stayed at, and there was a member of the hotel staff there at all times. Dinner was great with such an impressive variety of food. Meat and fish were being cooked to order each day. My grandson particularly liked the fresh griddled salmon! The sweet stuff was a bit repetitive, but good nonetheless. Evening entertainment at the outside entertainment area on the few occasions we saw it was good. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly, but they could do with more help at busy times as queues quickly formed. Outside the hotel is a lovely promenade for walking off the excesses of dinner - just watch out for the roller-bladers. It was our first visit to Torremolinos, having been put off by its reputation, but it will certainly not be our last visit to Torremolinos and the Sol Principe hotel.
