“Great Location. Great Food- Shame about the Air Conditioning”

Great Location and food was plentiful and good. Air Con was smelly - stale water. We decided not to use it for fear of Legionaires Disease. It might be harder not to use it in the Summer. Room had a Terrace 21x21ft. Great for sunbathing. Hotel staff really friendly. Local Bar owner had said when we told her where we were staying that other guests had advised the Hotel of the Air Con. Nothing dones about it. Other than that a great hotel. Spa looked good although we didn't use it.

“Somewhere to hang your Hat!!”

We stayed in Torremilinos at the Fenix for 6 nights, the reception area was nice but dimly lit, This is a spanish hotel so only a little english was spoken but it wasnt a problem. The room we had was adequate, tiled floor, bathroom was tired looking the back of the door at the bottom looked as if a blow torch had been used on it! In the room was a table (tv on it) and tea coffee and kettle, the plug for the kettle was at the other end of the room by the window! Nice small balcony which had the sun on it till lunchtime. The food I found to be sub standard (overcooked and dry looking) salad was available every meal time but the ham and cheese disappeared after the second day and never appeared again and nothing was offered in its place. Single beds were 'very firm' and the pillow was no good at all, saw the cleaner only twice in 6 days.

“great location”

This hotel is in a great location, approx 100 meters from the beach about 5 minutes walk from the shops. Don't bother booking transfers from Malaga airport, the train ride from Malaga to Torremolinos costs about 2 euro and takes about 10 minutes, from there the hotel is easily found within 10 minutes walking distance. The rooms were nice and cleaned daily. The food was OK, typically spanish but a few British dishes also.
The only complaint is that the cooked breakfast was always a bit cold and I had complained about a faulty hairdryer which was never fixed.

“very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2009

the only thing that lets this hotel down is perhaps the food, although there was always a lot of food on the buffet, and you could find something to suit your taste, lovely room, spotlessly clean, friendly english speaking staff ,close to the town centre and beach, what more could you want. thoroughly enjoyed by two sixty odd year olds and a 16 year old boy.

“Fantastic hotel- don´t be put off by the old reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

We booked the Fenix as part of a cheap 3 day getaway in August and having read the reviews below were not sure what we were letting oursleves in for.

We have been extremely pleasently surprised. The hotel is very very clean, well decorated, airy and bright.

The staff have been more than helpful and our room was nicer than allegedly 4* rooms we have had in London and Las Vegas. Mini-bar with complimentary soft drinks and water, flatscreen tv, free safe, massive bathroom, amazing powershower.

Best of all was the pool area, quiet, welcoming, clean and very often had the whole place to oursleves. The outdoor pool made you feel like you were at a spa and there was a lovely shaded kids pool (although no kids around!) for getting out of the sun for a mo. No problem getting sun loungers and no ´Brits on tour´lager louts putting towels out and then clearing off all day.

It is true the clientle are a real mix of nationalities, Spanish, German, French, English and Irish- with Spanish being the most prevelant. This means no shouting and screeching in corridors, no football shirt frenzy round the pool and no louts in the hotel bar. Holiday bliss.

The breakfast buffet was very well stocked and lovely; hot breakfast items like fried eggs bacon and sausage, fresh toasted breads, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, fruit, boiled eggs, fresh fruit juices, etc...

Other guests did say the evening meals were not the best on account of the food being a bit on the cold side so would reccomend B&B option rather than HB or FB.

The location is fab, there is a lift which takes you down from the pool area to the street beside the beach and you have a wealth of restaurants and bars within minutes of the hotel but without having any noise to put up with when you are in your room as the nightclubs are about a 10 min walk away.

We will definately be back with the kids next time!
