“Don't go!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

Where to start! Arrival was pleasant then as the week continued, 2 days of a leaky air conditioner, which came from the floor above us, the entire floor soaked and left a horrible smell all week when accessing the lift, seemed to be no attempt to eliminate this. No cups for tea, why provide a kettle? Very poor English spoken from all staff, seriously need to employ people who can understand what your complaints are about! Awful gym, machines broken and seriously why have a sauna in a gym adding to the heat when people are trying to work out! No air conditioning whatsoever in a gym in spain? Makes sense! Also the side door closed at 12pm, people are on holiday and don't want to walk miles to get to the front of the hotel which was quite a distance...and last but not least final day and not even a complementary room to shower after being at the beach all day, had to pay to use the gym shower which was an issue too!

Poor front reception staff, apart from one girl who my friend conversed with and reassured me she was very helpful.

Definitely NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL, MAYBE A TWO STAR.
VERY DISAPPOINTING

“Probably the worst hotel I have seen in Spain”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

It is not a 4 stars hotel. That was something we could guess from the price, but I would not even give it 3 stars...
I went there to bring the parents of my girlfriend and I was afraid when I got in the room: it smelt awful, like pipes, humidity...can't describe it. We kept the windows open for a couple of hours and it was not enough.
The bathroon was kind of dark, with a small red (sorry??) light hanging from the ceiling. The toilet was in a short of corner inside the bathroom with barely no light...amazing.
Many of the tiles on the floor were partly broken and walls, dirty....

I asked to get another room, which was at least decent, but definetely not 4 stars. I did not smell and was clean, but after the first room, the impression we got could not change that much.

The good point is clear: location. Close to the beach, to the train station and the main street of the town.
They said food was just ok, not bad for a hotel.

DEFINITELY I WON'T GO THERE AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT ANYBODY.

“We Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

Food was good, both the breakfast and the dinner, The hotel is a little dated, but kept clean ,the only drawback was that their drainage system is a bit smelly ,we kept the bathroom /toilet door closed and extractor fan on all the time during our stay .It was fantastic to have access to Torremolinos Main Street on the 8th floor ,and then just taking the elevator to the first floor we were by the beach. Hotel is built on a Cliff. Fridge in room very useful.
Staff was both Friendly and helpful.

“Summa Fenix - great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2011

Went for a 5 day break with a friend on a half board basis - not our usual choice. Paid less than £250 each, including flights.
Last visited the area 2yrs ago, on B&B and found the local eateries fairly expensive and mediocre, at best.
Went down to dinner on first evening to be pleasantly surprised. Self service with lots of choice to suit most palates. Bear in mind that this hotel caters for all nationalities. Breakfast equally as good. I'm surprised by some of the other reviews re the food, as I observed my British compatriots eating heartily !
All of the staff were very helpful and indeed kind. English is not their first language (no surprise there!), but all staff had some English and we got by with hand gestures and humour.
During our stay requested extra pillows, cups for tea and blankets - all were delivered happily and promptly.
Hotel is well situated - out the front door for the town square and shops - out the back door for promenade and beach - all within 5 min walk.
Small pool in a conservatory - water nice and warm.
A good balance of ages and nationalities whilst we were there, which we prefer. Spoke to other guests and no-one was moaning - it's a shame they haven't done a review !
The ONLY downside was the smelly air-con, as mentioned by others. We didn't need to use it, but it would be a problem in high season.
We had a great stay and indeed felt we had great value for money. I would recommend to family and friends. We intend to return.
