“Learning from Past Mistakes”

I have been to this hotel once before in early April, 2002. I loved the hotel at that time and I still love this hotel. The only thing that could be improved is the bedroom which needs to be up-dated. They are going to close this hotel in November and it is going to be refurbished. Other than the rooms which still aren't terrible, the hotel needs no up-dating in my book. We had a standard room which had a separate bedroom and a nice size living room. Now here is my big complaint. In order for you to use the refrigerator in the room, you had to pay 10euros per week to have the frig. turned on. They made you pay this amount and you could buy water, soda, or juice for the 10 euros. They also made you pay a deposit of 10 euros for a pool towel which is returned when you turn in your towel at the end of your stay. Sounds fair but if you want a clean or dry towel every day, you had to pay an additional l euro. Please don't make us pay for these extras. You have our credit cards. If we did not return the towel, you could have charged us. Charging l euro for a clean towel each day is nuts. The cost of the refrigerator should have been included in the price of the room. At least this time they didn't make you pay for your lounge chair by the pool. In 2002, they charged you 60 cents a day to use the lounge chairs. I refused and said I would lay on the cement but would not pay that fee. The other hotels are still charging for this but this hotel does not now. I complained to the hotel and so should everyone else when they pull this stuff. We are not stupid Americans. The pool area, nightclub, and buffet are the best around and you are in the middle of all the action. It was to chilly for me when we went in April 2002 but in Sept. 2011, the weather was perfect. They have 3 social directors that are great and kept us very happy. Be careful the time of year you go. Last time the kids in Spain were on Easter vacation and there were to many kids around for us older folk. This time there were no kids around at all. They could use some music around the pool. To quiet for me. I'm not that old yet. They told me that the people want it quiet. Stay home if you can't stand some soft music around the pool. My only other advice is NEVER go to France if you have to make a connection to Malaga. This airport is so huge and it is impossible to get from one gate to the other if you don't have at least 1 1/2 hours between flights and that is if you have no delays. We sat at the gate in France for 1 hour and 15 minutes and ran at least 1 1/2 miles to catch our next flight and still missed it. Then they told me that I couldn't get on the next flight and I would have to wait till 8 P.M. to get the next flight. I had a fit and some how they found two seats for us on the next flight. The best part is when we arrived in Spain, you guessed it. No luggage. We spent an hour and a half waiting on line to fill out a report on the missing luggage and didn't get to the hotel until 6:30 P.M. We were due in Spain at 3 p.m. Thank God we did get our luggage the next morning. We made all our reservations with a travel agent through SUN HOLIDAYS.We used them the last time and had problems. This time it was even worse. The representive from Sun Holidays didn't meet us at the airport and we had to make our own arrangements to get to our hotel. The rep. was there and gave us our necessary papers for our tours, meals and that was it. I figured that I would see her the next day to ask all the questions that I had. We were tired and all we wanted was to eat and relax. Well we didn't see this rep. again until 2 days before we left. I was really upset and told her so. In 2002, she had a desk at the hotel and you could see her every day for any questions you had. This time no desk and no way to contact her. When I asked her why she wasn't at the hotel every day, she told me that being we were only 12 people from SUN HOLIDAYS, they didn't feel it was worth it to pay her to sit at the hotel all day to take care of us. I told her that SUN HOLIDAYS should have either canceled the trip or refunded us some money. I have written to SUN HOLIDAYS' and we will see what they tell me. Thank God that I had been to this hotel before and I knew the ropes. I also asked a lot of other guests questions when I needed to know something. There were a lot of people from England and Ireland at this hotel because the trip is short, like us going to Florida from New York. I will go back to this hotel but will be smarter with my flight time and place to transfer from. I will also NEVER use SUN HOLIDAYS' AGAIN. I was at this hotel for 2 wonderful weeks. Beware of one more thing. You can't find tap water anywhere except in the bathrooms. No water fountains any where. I guess they want you to buy water. I filled bottles of tap water and kept them in the frig. None of us got sick. Another way of getting more euros from us. Not from this American.

“Great Stay”

We stayed at the hotel on a family holiday and found the staff very friendly and helpfull. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are just what we wanted and the food is great with ample choice at breakfast and dinner.

The sheets and towels are cleaned daily and the swimming pool area is also cleaned regularly. Cannot wait to return.

“Good location, but be careful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Just returned from 2 weeks in this hotel. Checkin was very slow and the rooms were not ready till 15-00, having said that, we did travel with a group of 127 people, however, the hotel knew the arrival time well in advance. The rooms are clean, but basic, some rooms have twin beds and some have doubles. The fridge requires you to purchase 20 Euro worth of fridge items before it is switched on, this is a bit of a ripoff, the safe for 2 weeks was 35 Euro. We were originally in "Block 1" (There are 3 blocks) and had to be moved as the noise from the street was keeping us awake until about 04-00 in the morning, lots of other people had the same problem, and also had to be moved as rooms became available. So call in advance and insist on Block 3 it is the quietest.
The pool area is ok and cleaned every day, but the usual problem with towels exists, however, the beach is only about 50 meters away and a sunbed costs 4.50 for the day.
The hotel location is excellent insofar as it is close to everything, and public transport is very convenient and good value.
The food was excellent with a good choice, and good value. The entertainment was also acceptable, if a little repetitious.
Overall I would recommend this hotel because of it's location (Stay away from block 1) and the quality and value of the food. The service is Spanish, and as such is slow and deliberate.

“Average service but great location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

First off the hotel is closing on Monday for around 12 weeks to upgrade foyer / reception / and shops. I understand next year the bar area will be upgraded followed by the pool area. In my view the hotel is nowhere near a 4 star, this upgrade is badly needed and when complete may be 4 star hotel.
Stayed for 13 nights b/b and overall was disappointed with standard and service. The room was clean but dated and could do with a facelift like the rest of the hotel .We were happy enough with the buffett breakfast, lots to chose from and your sure to find what you like.
The hotel caters for the more mature holidaymaker and I would guess the average age was 60 y/o when we were there.
As most others have said location cant be beat but if you wanted to go to train stn you would need a taxi and cost €6.
Would consider going back because of upgrade and location but most staff need to be reminded about how guests should be treated.
