We were due to stay at private apartment 332 listed as “property no 455583 in Marbella Town Spain” at HomeAway web site for 14 nights. We stayed just one night. The experience was the worst we have ever had in over 30 years of global travel. Customer service from the Apartment Owner was also the worst ever experience we have ever had.
We had stayed at Jardines del Mar previously and had several self- catering apartments elsewhere in Marbella so we know the standard of accommodation and the service to be expected.
The apartment is definitely not suitable for children as there is no guard rail fitted to the balcony. Other dangers are that the kettle has to be boiled via an extension lead on the floor and the DVD player is on the floor but could not be used as the cable to the TV was missing.
The apartment had not been properly cleaned, and all the equipment had not been checked to ensure it was present and properly working or not damaged before we arrived. The bathroom waste bin was full of rubbish and the shower drain was blocked.
The double bed is in fact a futon style bed which is very low on the floor and is fitted with an undersized worn pad. It is not a sprung mattress which made it extremely uncomfortable. Also only two worn pillows had been provided.
There was no hot running water in the kitchen and only a dribble of water from the tap. In addition, as the dishwasher was disconnected maintaining basic hygiene standards was difficult.
No washing machine is provided there are no laundry facilities on site and the nearest launderette is a 10 minute walk away.
There is no separate dining area provided as claimed and the apartment has been refurbished to a poor standard with second hand or damaged cupboards, furniture, and fittings. Air conditioning is provided by the complex and is only switched on between June 1st and the autumn.
The kitchen equipment provided was poor for a self-catering apartment and the microwave was tiny. Only one well used coffee mug could be found. The frying pan was badly scratched.
As the Owner lives abroad, communications were difficult and it took a week to meet with their representative, Arturas from “La Concha Living” in order to carry out a joint inspection of the apartment. Less than 50% of our money has been returned without any explanation and the Owner does not reply to the e-mails sent to them. We had to pay by Bankers Transfer as credit cards were not accepted although the web page claimed they were.
