I can agree with many of the other reviews of this "resort". We booked through our time share and only paid about $100 per night for our three bedroom apartment. I did not have high expectations after reading some of these reviews, but was happily surprised by the end of the week. Reception hours are lacking. Be sure to arrange for a late check-in by getting a special code. Make sure you have some idea of where you are headed before you try to find this place in the dark. There are stairs everywhere so if you have mobility problems, this place is not for you. Also, this resort is not near the beach.
This was not a problem for us. The beaches we did drive by did not look inviting and I was quite glad to not be near the beach crowds.
Apartments are very spacious. Balconies are huge! The kitchen is equipped with the basics, including a washing machine. A drying rack is on the balcony. We had lots of sun so that was not a problem. Be sure to bring or buy a sponge, extra dishwasher tablets and laundry soap. The beds are just OK. They should be replaced. Couch and chairs are not comfortable and should be replaced as well. The floors are marble so noise travels easily within the unit and your neighbor's unit if they are noisy. It would be terrible to have party goers or a crying infant next door. All that being said, I still consider the apartment to be a good deal. It was quite clean. We frequently stay in 5 star resorts and this place is no where near that (I'd give it 2 and a half), but everyone I saw seemed to be having a good time. My husband and I were traveling with our two teenagers and my in-laws joined us mid-week.
There are two grocery stores (the closest one is more expensive) within easy walking distance and plenty of restaurants (not cheap) as well. Evita's is excellent. It was great for us not to have a designated driver because we could all walk. There is no gym/workout facilitites, only an empty room. One of the ladies at the front desk was really helpful and we did end up booking two tours to Grenada and Tangier. It's not cheap at 75-80 euros a person, but they were worth it. Grenada was excellent. Tangier was OK. Very focused on shopping, but still enjoyable. The street sellers was a bit aggressive but nothing like India. My kids weren't afraid at all. Just say "no thank you" and keep walking. We drove ourselves to Ronda, which was beautiful, and to Gibralter. Do not attempt to drive on Gibralter. There is a public parking garage near the border. Park there (it has safe, clean bathrooms) and walk across the border. Book a tour immediately at the border. You'll hope in a taxi and get your own personal tour and drive up the mountain. I don't think tour buses would fit on the roads there. Streets are tiny and I am used to tiny because we live in Europe. There is no need to leave early in the morning for either of these two trips. Sleep in, enjoy the sun on the balcony and leave around noon.
There is no housekeeping during the week other than the trash being collected. If your towels need washing, then you have to wash them. If you want towels for the pool, you have to check them out for a 6 euro deposit. TV is hard to figure out. Lots of little things come up so be sure to take care of them before reception closes. Even if you choose not to stay at this resort, be careful about where you choose. We drove the entire stretch of the beach front and there were many more scary looking hotels/apartments than decent looking hotels. I would recommend this resort but with reservations. Just read reviews and know what you're getting into before you book. We got lucky.
