“a very relaxed week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2010

Although there are signs that the harsh economic times have had an effect, our stay at the hotel was comfortable and relaxed. Our room was lovely (107) with an outlook over the hotel gardens and pool. It was plenty large enough, with a sizeable bathroom and good shower/bath. I have to compliment the room cleaning. It was done daily effectively and efficiently. It was nice that there was a long time slot to access the adequate buffet breakfast. It helped the relaxed aspect of the holiday. The hotel lobby and bar area were comfortable with free Wifi access. It would have been nice to be able to access the net from the rooms, but access was free and generally no problems with it. The hotel was easy to find after some Net reference. The parking was fine. I had access to a rental car during my stay, but there is the coastal route bus service. The hotel is situated in a residential area but the beach is within walking distance and has a good restaurant there overlooking the Med (Triana) far better than the next closest beach place (Sinbads) Across the coastal expressway there is a very nice Italian DaBruno and also El Rancho grill nearby. I would go back to this hotel as it has a relaxed feel and good value for the money. It needs some tlc but it is understandable in these economic times that some work has been neglected. I would recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel as the coastal road is a busy one and I might not have found it as peaceful had the room been on that side of the hotel. Alas Spain was a great deal more expensive than on previous visits. It is no longer a cheap holiday destination for Brits and a nasty surprise was Easyjet charging for baggage like the grasping Ryanair ( and the lightest baggae allowance I have ever encountered in any air travel)

“Just nice...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2009

This hotel is a very nice Andalucian style hote, it is based very near the beach, couple of meters walk, it is also based in a residential and quite area versus trafic in Marbella town itself, it also gets quite near the very good restaurants and near the bus stop where you can get bus 220 to Marbella old town runs every 20 minutes, taxi is only 20 euros and very reliable, good for those into swimming, walking, silence, nice pool also, stuff not the friendliest but try to organise yourself on time and prepare. Note this is not a 7 star hotel, neither their price so don't expect Ritz. Those whop complaints should check in in Ritz, think expectations are far too high. You should know in advance what you looking for. If you are into beach, peace, golf, reliable swimming pool, silent residential are but near Marbella and Fuengirolla crowd then this hotel should be excellent. I am staying in that area 5 years and I found it best as iot's 12 km away from Marbella and Puerto Banus overcrowdedness and gloom, high rise bulidings etc. Near shops and petrol station, couple of pharmacy's just reliable. Love it.

“Cheap and Clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

I suspect that in its day this was a fine hotel but its best days are behind it. It is on the major highway but noise was not a problem. It is in a strip mall next to a residential area but a short walk to the beach, with a perfectly good restaurant on the beach. There is also a fine Indian restaurant across the highway. The grounds and pool are reasonably maintained but some of the furniture has seen better days and the "golf course" is a bit sad. If you are a keen golfer forget this course.

The breakfast was good but there was little if any food available for the rest of the day.

If, like us, you just want a clean cheap place to sleep, have breakfast and then tour the area then the Artola is perfectly acceptable. If however you want facilities, to be waited on and are a bit fussy - go elsewhere.

“Charming but not cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2008

This is an old style hotel . The staff was not the most helpful, but I think they speak less English than in the bigger hotels.
The hotel is located right on the main coast road and rooms on that side will be noisy.
It can be difficult to find when travelling towards Marbella.
There is plenty of free parking outside, and a 24hr pharmacy next door.
My room was fairly basic but comfortable. The wardrobe looked like a local handyman had constructed it. I was on the second floor (the highest) and had no terrace. There were old-fashioned wooden windows with shutters that did not close properly. The room and bathroom were fairly clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast is self-service as usual and I didn’t see any options for cooked breakfast.
In the back there is a garden and a pool, which looked quite nice. There were only a few chairs – but there might be more in the high season.
The hotel was fine – it’s an old fashioned place with quite a lot of charm. But I felt it was slightly more expensive than it should have been bearing in mind the location and the facilities.
Nearby there is Cabopino Beach and Cabopino Harbour. Both are worth visiting.
