Stayed here over New Year and choose this one mainly because of the good reviews and the location. It is perfectly positioned mid way between the beach and the old town. The weather was great so it was nice to have a mornings stroll down the promenade. As others have said, there are some really good restaurants on the street behind the hotel by the bull ring. Places you wouldn't have found staying in the centre. Apart from the bakery we also used a really nice cafe bar on Paseo de Reding on the corner at the opposite side of the bull ring. We turned up one night halfway through a football match between Real Madrid and Malaga and despite it being really busy the bar staff moved tables and chairs so we could have a drink and see the game. We had breakfast there too occasionally. The hotel itself has lots of character, the decor is very Spanish and you don't feel as though you're in a multinational hotel chain. The staff were very helpful and the restaurant was good too, we ate there just the one night. All in all, I'd happily stay there again, there are more swish hotels in Malaga but I liked the character and the position of the Maestranza.
