“Don't stay here, we were left on the doorstep without notice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2009

We booked our holiday through Expedia and after reading several reviews I believed this hotel should be OK. However, after finally arriving at the hotel (having had to pay for a taxi since there isn't a bus station nearby), we were told by the manager in extremely broken English that the hotel would be closed on the 2nd day of our stay. He then rambled on in Spanish and gave us the name of a different hotel we needed to go to. Since we don't speak Spanish at all I asked him to write it down. He started gesticulating, I suppose trying to indicate the direction we needed to take, and made it sound like it was just down the road. He then basically said OK, and turned around to carry on with something else. After standing there completely baffled as to what we're supposed to do, we phoned the hotel he'd just given us the name to (where someone actually spoke English!) and it turns out this hotel is on the other side of Malaga in Benamaldena!! I then started arguing with the manager and eventually forced him to pay for a taxi to take us to the new hotel. We were EXTREMELY dissatisfied. Not only were we not informed that they had suddenly decided to close the hotel for a day, they didn't even organise transport to take guests to the substitute hotel! I would definitely NOT recommend staying here.

“A pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2008

Location: Situated about 300m from the Main Street, Promenade, and beach. Be aware, however, that the hotel is on a hill, quite steep in parts, with further steps up to the building itself. Anyone with a mobility problem should be cautious about booking here. The good news is that a taxi from the town centre rank costs 5 euro.

Reception: Manned 24 hours, and most of the staff speak at least some English. Quick and efficient check in and out. Staff were, perhaps, a little vague about the local area; enquiries about maps and local points of interest tended to be responded to with directions to the local Tourist Information Office.

Room: Quite spacious, if a little under-furnished. There was ample storage for clothing. The beds were comfortable, and the balconey (3rd floor) offered a pleasant enough view. The bathroom was clean and functional, if dimly lit with little storage space. There was a wall-mounted TV, though no English language channel. Air-conditioning worked very well.

Breakfast: Buffet-style with the usual hot and cold options. Drinks came from machines, but having said that the coffee was surprisingly good.

Staff: All of the staff that we came in contact with were friendly and helpful.

Other facilities: Large pleasant foyer area with seating, and a 'social' area with TV, seating and tables and chairs suitable for playing cards etc. There was a pleasant bar with additional outside terrace seating, though the bar was rarely manned and it was necessary to go to Reception who would contact someone. There was a small outside swimming pool which we didn't use, so no comment.

Overall we had a pleasant 10 day stay, and would recommend the hotel, with the caveat of the location on the hill.

“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2008

Despite reading some negative comments, I booked this hotel because I was offered a very good price and the location suited my requirements.

I stayed here with a friend for 10 nights towards the end of May 2008. I agree with some of the other reviews. The hotel feels dated, there is no sound-proofing and the quality of the television picture in the bedroom was poor.

However, the staff were courteous and helpful, the bedroom was kept very clean and the buffet breakfast was fine. Although simply furnished, the bedroom was quite large with a small balcony.

The location of the hotel is very good in my opinion; a 10 minute walk to shops, restaurants and the beach and a 2 minute drive to the costal motorway. There is plenty of parking.

However, I would not recommend the location of the hotel to anyone with walking difficulties because it is built on a steep hill.

The Rincon area itself is very pleasant and does not feel "touristy". I would happily stay here again for the same price but would consider other hotels if the price was not competitive.
