“Good value and central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2007

Our room was clean and very pleasant - furnished to a higher standard than I expected for a budget hotel (€57 for one night). There's no breakfast available.

If you're driving there one thing you need to know is that the hotel parking which may be advertised is actually the large underground municipal car park close by in the Plaza de la Marina (follow the Marina signs). The hotel supplies you with a card which gives you a discount rate of €5 overnight (8pm to 9am), but you pay the full rate of something like €1.50/hour in the daytime. Don't try to drive right up to the hotel (as we did) - the street is narrow and no entry except for authorised vehicles.

My initial impression of the reception staff was not promising - when I explained that we had a car blocking the street outside the first reaction was a shrug, followed by an explanation of where we should have parked in rapid Spanish, which I had to ask to be repeated several times before I could understand it. However once that problem was out of the way the staff were reasonably friendly and helpful.

“Good value for money”

Good value for money, excellent location, very helpful staff who tried to made them understood even if they don't speak English and we didn't speak Spanish. Excellent arrangement between hostal management and city council which entitles hostal's guest to overnight parking at the nearby underground parking for only 5 euros per night. I would only add that the room didn't have heating nor a duvet, so it isn't the place for anyone going to Malaga in winter. Also, the room had a shallow monopillow for the two of us sharing a double bed, and no extra pillows.

“Great value for money & so central”

We stayed at Hostal Victoria for 4 nights. Our room was on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel. It was a little noisy during the day (I was trying to take a nap after I arrived) but very quiet at night. Most of the staff don't speak English but we were able to get by as they were all so friendly. The reception desk is manned 24/7. The room was pretty small but spotlessly clean. This hotel is right by the main shopping area and just a stones throw from the Cathedral and Picasso museum. It's about 2 blocks from the main train line and about 1/2 a block from several buses. Definitely would recommend it.

“Hostal Victoria II and II”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2006

I recently returned from a trip to Spain which included Madrid, Sevilla,Cordova, Malaga, Granada and Barcelona. This review is specifically about my good experience at Hostal Victoria. As a young woman traveling with a couple of girl friends we found this hostal to be a really safe and a great value. My main concern when staying some where is always safety and cleanliness. I would rate this hostal high for both. At 60 euros a night this hostal offers a very clean and safe enviroment. Both locations are excellently located near all the shopping, restaurants, cafes, locutorios (telephone/internet places). I would recommend this place to anyone who is traveling on a budget. As a young woman I always felt safe coming and going at all times of the day or night. I stayed at both Hostal Victoria II and III. Hostal Victoria II would be my first choice because it is located right in the center of Puerta del Sol. Hostal Victoria III is still very central but about a 5 mins walk from the centre of Puerta del Sol. Hostal Victoria III has a beautiful bakery right next door. The smell of delicious baked goods can be smelled throughout the day. What temptation! The hostal is simple and clean. It was perfect!

“great little hostal”

A very central hostal. About 8 minute max walk to picasso museum, 4 minute to cathedral and 15 minute to beach. Many shops and restaurants all around hotel. Small but clean room. We did ask for a room with double bed when we booked room via email but they claimed I didn't and gave us two single beds. However, we were able to push beds together so no problem.

Only downside, room smelt of cigarettes that we couldn't seem to get rid of and a new shower curtain was needed. However, excellent double glazing which meant wonderful nights sleep, fantastic location and felt very safe as you can only enter hostal by ringing the buzzer. Someone is ALWAYS there so you are never kept waiting. We paid about 55-57 Euros a night.

Good value, would stay there again.
