“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2007

Perhaps our expectations were too high, as the hotel's website is so promising, but we were rather disappointed as we had decided to pay a bit more for something 'special.'

Our room was in the new building, and it certainly wasn't special. The fabric/furnishings were cheap and not very attractive, the balcony door was stuck so couldn't be opened (although the view was over a yard and wasn't worth seeing anyway). There were ants in the bed and the tap in the sink was little more than a trickle. (A world away from the photos in the website, although ours was just a standard double). There was no stove in the room - the hotel does not claim this although a previous reviewer stated that every room has a stove.

Apart from a welcoming host at reception the night we arrived, we never saw any other staff members until we checked out three days later. That could be considered "unobtrusive" but the impression was more of neglect. It would have been nice to have someone saying
"good morning" at breakfast. Instead, you are left to your own devices, and a maid pops in very irregularly to top up the buffet.

We didn't try the restaurant so can't comment, but breakfast was mediocre. Although there was a good buffet selection - cold meats, cereal, breads, pastries, yoghurts, fruit etc, the bread was stale, and the flies were swarming round the fruit.

The setting is pretty, and the entrance drive to the hotel is well lit and welcoming, giving a good first impression. But you can't see the sea from anywhere in the hotel complex, as far as we could tell. It's certainly secluded, so in theory ideal for a romantic retreat. It's likely that the superior rooms and suites in the old building are more attractive. We asked for an upgrade but were only offered another similar standard room in the new building, even though the hotel seemed to be quite quiet.

Clearly, other people have had excellent experiences, so the hotel can't be ruled out, but it's worth getting as much info as possible about your room - perhaps even a photograph - before booking.

“Relaxing in the mountains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2006

Just returned from a weeks break in this hotel,
Good standard through out with a quite and inobtrusive staff.
Restuarant was excellent with good service and food.
Room was as described and very clean and appointed.
We had a lovely break, would use the hotel again and recommend it to any one wanting peace and quite with a little luxury. nc

“A disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2006

Stayed 3 nights and wished we hadn't. We chose the hotel because their website says you can enjoy beautiful views to the sea. That’s not correct. If you leave the hotel grounds and walk for a few minutes you can ‘enjoy’ a poor view of a crane at a building site on the coast, perhaps 10 miles away.

At Reception they have a note setting out their commitment to quality. Hmmm… In our room the curtains were falling down from the rail (they could not be closed), wall fittings had become detached, our sheet had a big hole in the middle (you could get a fist through it) and the electronic door lock did not work.

There were insufficient loungers around the pool. Apparently some others were being cleaned and would be delivered ‘right away’ but they didn’t arrive in the 4 days we were there. Guests walked into the pool area, saw there was nowhere to sit down, and walked away. The pool area had not been swept for some time and the pool itself was full of leaves and twigs so we decided not to swim in it. On one day the wind was blowing strongly and a number of the very large umbrellas at the poolside blew into the pool. Several members of staff walked past and none stopped to fish them out.

We had lunch at the restaurant the day we arrived. The marketing material promises all the pleasures of the best food from the Malaga area. A club sandwich turned out to have a very thin slice of tasteless processed chicken roll and far too much mayonnaise. The glasses were dirty and we sent them back.

Our room was in the new block, built only 18 months ago. It was really attractive but, as already stated, really badly maintained.

The whole place has the feel of a place where the owners made their investment and are earning their profit by saving money on maintenance, staff and cleaning. Other than the helpful receptionist, no-one seems to care.

The best things about the hotel are the location (the walks in the surrounding area are delightful) and the price. But there were too many downsides for us – we won’t be returning.

Nothing but complements: a great place in a word, the tranquility and the view is stunning. We've had a perfect first night of our honeymoon with excellent food, good wine and the nicest people. Enjoy the breakfast!

“Lovely location, smelly room”

Gorgeous location!! The location and setting of this hotel are really the highlight. The pool is lovely and the grounds, while not well-maintained, are also very nice.

The room we stayed in was quite clean, but had a terrible odor in it. The odor was only difficult to bear in the first 10 minutes or so after entering, so it wasn't such a huge negative that I would never stay there again.

The restaurant is also quite nice serving very good food. We are both quite picky about food quality and were pleasantly surprised.
