Close to everything and in a quiet street is the location of Hotel Sur. Large room with air condition. Both room and bathroom were very clean. Nice staff in the reception. No breakfast is served but there is a nice place 10 meters from the hotel.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is ideal. And the prices make it a great value (40 euros in November). It's the city that makes the hotel worthwhile, and it's a great city. Like a mini Seville -- with a beach! Run along the Mediterranean. Eat some of the cheapest tapas in Spain. Party late into the night with the Malaguenos. Or go shopping on the marble-paved streets.

Hotel Sur is a fine hotel, a bit non-descript. Nothing offensive, but nothing to make me stay again, except: it has an on-site carpark. We hired a car from Malaga Airport, arrived late, and were moving on to our rented house the next day. So, we chose Hotel Sur because it has parking. Now, be warned, anything bigger than a Fiat Bambino requires advanced parking skills to get in and out of the carpark, but at least we were comforted to know the car was secure.

The hotel is a great location, a short walk to the Cathedral area. We ate at a little tapas bar on the main road, just around the corner from Sur (it was late, couldn't find anything else open). The food there was bland, bland, bland, except for the grease in everything. Sorry can't help you on where to eat.

We did ask to leave the car in the park after we checked out and that was no problem.

So, average room, courteous service, and very convenient.

I would stay there again because of the parking, but it's not a place to stay for a whole holiday.

A good friend of mine lives on the same block and she made a reservation for me.

At 42 Euros a night (at the end of June, 2011), this is a value hotel located right in the heart of Malaga. You will probably never need to use transportation during your stay other than your own two feet. The Alcazaba, Larios Street, the Roman Theatre, the Cathedral, etc. are all within walking distance.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable and have free wi-fi, which is very useful when you're traveling and want to: a) stay in touch with people at home and b) plan the rest of your trip.

Hotel Sur doesn't offer breakfast, but there are many cafes and small restaurants a couple of blocks from the hotel. Tip: If you want to taste a typical Andalusian breakfast item, ask for "tostada con tomate y aceite" (your choice of toasted bread with fresh tomato puree spread on top and olive oil on the side).
