“Great value - great spa, relaxing experience was just what we needed.”

This hotel was a great hotel... My wife and I wanted a quick relaxing getaway and that's just what we got. We didn't want the beach, so the location--away from the beach, but a short (5 min) drive--was fine. The hotel is right next to a highway, but the waterfall in the pool perfectly covered any road noise. I heard zero cars or traffic the entire stay. The rooms were immaculate, the bathrooms excellent.
We enjoyed the spa circuit (included in our price), but thought the massages weren't worth the cost. We also opted for half-board, and the dinner was excellent. Great taste, good portions. Unfortunately, we had to rush through dinner to make our appointment at the spa, but the waiter delivered our desserts up to our room. Nice touch.
The hotel wasn't at capacity, that you could tell... not sure how the hotel would be at the height of the season, but for us, and this one night quick getaway, it was perfect. No complaints at all. Definitely recommend.

“Nice Hotel but you need a car to get anywhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

We stayed in the Hotel Selenza for 5 nights (booked via Lastminute.ie). We hired a car at the airport (well actually a couple of miles outside the airport - we didnt realise the hire car company also booked through lastminute.ie didnt have a desk at Malaga airport; instead we had to wait outside for a shuttle bus to take us to the car hire place). It is about an hour drive to the Hotel along the motorway (it is actually located about 5 miles on the Marbella side of Estepona town).

On arrival, the first thing that you notice is that the hotel is literally just on the side of the motorway junction. The beach is on the other side of the motorway, as are the local restaurants that we found (Chinese, Italian, Steak shacks etc). The hotel itself is nice with a fair sized pool and plenty of sunloungers (which get much busier on the weekends as a lot of locals seem to spend their weekends there). There are a couple of supermarkets located nearby to the hotel.

However, there were a few little things that niggled me; the carpark was charged at a rate of 6 Euros per day even for those staying in the hotel. We used the free street parking which was right outside. There was also nowhere that you could check in and print boarding passes for your flight home (there are 2 PC's in the reception area with free internet access but no printer) - the receptionist offered us the option of emailing our boarding passes to her and said she would print them, and then proceeded to charge 2 Euros per sheet of paper that she printed. As a frequent business traveller, I have not come across a hotel that didnt offer the facility of printing boarding passes in some time.

Estepona itself was a nice town; much quieter than neighbouring Marbella, Puerta Banus, Fuengirola, Benalmadena etc. We also drove up to Ronda (also about an hour from the hotel Selenza) for the day; a fantastic town split by a gorge; the scenery is breathtaking and it is a really traditional town complete with bullring. Definitely worth the visit.

All in all it was an enjoyable trip, and whilst I liked the hotel, the location and the fact you had to drive everywhere or pay for a taxi (15 Euros into Estepona) would put me off staying here again. I would be more likely to choose the Crowne Plaza which is located on the seafront and within walking distance of the local restaurants, or a hotel located in Estepona itself - to avoid the need for driving everywhere.

“excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2009

A lovely friendly hotel. Spa (which was included in the Expedia price ) was superb. Treatments were on the expensive side. Easy to get to from Malaga Airport (1 hour drive) Views of Gibralta from our room.

“Should be lovely but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

Our first surprise, and not a nice one, was to find the hotel virtually in the middle of the main coast road but the reception area was clean and bright so we hoped things would improve - they didn't. Daily use of the Sea Water Circuit was included in our room rate but we had to argue to get this and were grudgingly given guest passes for 3 days out of our 4 day stay.

Our room initially looked OK, if small, with a balcony overlooking the pool but on closer examination the bedcovers weren't very clean and the garish bathroom was very uninviting. The air conditioning seemed to be virtually turned off and it was impossible to sleep at night with the windows closed - which is when we found about the mosquitoes. The sheets were only changed once during our stay. I'm sure the hotel description I read said the hotel was 3km from Estepona but it is much. much further and at 15 Euros each way for a taxi added considerably to the cost of eating out in the evenings.

Breakfast looked wonderful but nothing tasted half as good as it looked and there was only a selection of cooked food at weekends and it wasn't great either. Having sampled the breakfast we decided not to eat in the hotel at all so I can't comment on the restaurant but the one lunch we had by the pool was mediocre.

On the positive side the Sea Water Circuit is fab and we had it almost to ourselves most mornings (it is the only reason I would even consider going back to this hotel and then only if I heard everything else had improved). We had one massage and it was OK but you can get better and cheaper in the UK.

The staff didn't seem happy in their work and were most notable by their absence.

This should be a really lovely hotel despite the poor location but something is far wrong.

“Perfect for what we wanted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2009

We stayed one night at the selenza to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. The spa was great and so were the body treatments we had. For dinner we decided to stay at the hotel and try the fish and shellfish buffet and must say we were very impressed, good value for money. Tables were set around the pool area and gave it a very romantic atmosphere. Overall it was a very relaxing break. Definitely going again next year, hopefully for two nights.
