“Reasonable hotel, awful location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I stayed here for the weekend recently (I was attending a wedding in the area) and found the hotel to be of a decent standard. It was clean and the rooms were spacious. The pool area was nice, and the bar was decent enough. I would have expected better food however, from a four star hotel.

Two things stuck out for me.

Firstly the location; the hotel is situated about 100 yards from a motorway. This pervades everything about your experience. If your sitting at the pool, all you can hear are cars. The air quality everywhere is generally terrible. The town of Cancelada (outside which the hotel is situated) is a new build, from scratch, and so has absolutely no character or indigenous Spanish population...

How the Spanish authorities have been allowed to do this to a beautiful area of their country is lamentable.

Secondly (and slightly less important) is the music in the hotel. Everywhere I went in the building all I could hear was this sound of whales being murdered by panpipes (at least that what I interpreted as). I presume as the hotel has a spa attached to it, this music is supposed to sooth the guest and generally create a mood of relaxation... I have been on this earth for over 4 decades and I have yet to come across anyone, ever, who listens to panpipes voluntarily. Why this hotel feels the need to bombard us with this musak at intolerable levels is a mystery to me. If the intention was to relax me, the opposite occurred.

If this hotel was situated by the sea, or up high in the mountains, it would have got a better review. I just can't see why anyone would want to spend any time at all in this place...

To make things worse... It ain't cheap.

“Fantastic,just what we needed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

The hotel was modern, clean, great room and very friendly staff. The pool area was excellent and the wellness spa was fantastic. We only had breakfast which had a range of food, everything you would want. If you book you need to ask for a room with a pool view as the other side looks over the road. The hotel was a central location to the coast road but you definately need to have a car. The hotel was in its own little haven but unfortunately the coast road is very untidy, half built buildings and so built up that the area is completely spoilt. You need to drive inland to get the real, pretty off the beaten track Spain. Also prices have gone up again and the beach bars were not cheap! We loved the hotel but not the costa del sol!

“Hotel is attractive, but in a bad location with in inconsistent ammenities and service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011 via mobile

Pretty hotel and spa. Located on the highway with no restaurants in walking range. There were often lines at the front desk and service was slow. Breakfast was fine, but lunch and dinner menus were limited and food wasn't great ( a problem for an isolated hotel).

“Good base to stay, with some reservations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

The hotel has dated interiors, including orange bath sinks, but is very well maintained in general although the corridor carpets were worn and dirty. The room we had was spacious, all appear to have a balcony with table and chairs and the shower and bath were very good. The hotel operates on minimum staff level, but those that are there are helpful and friendly. Nice large swimming pool, with good bar serving food, in small but attractive tropical garden. Breakfast buffet was excellent, appealingly laid out and with a very good choice. The Spa is the real star of this resort, we paid 18 euros for a circuit which was well worth it. Air conditioning in the room was not working when we arrived but was fixed within short order, however, a reading light lampbulb was not replaced despite two requests during our 2 day stay. The location of the hotel means you need a car to get around including to the beach, although there is a shuttle bus service. We did discover you could take a back road to the Supersol supermarket and walk along the slip road to a restaurant that offered incredible value and fabulous food, called D'Herminia (first floor of Centro Comercial Costasol, El Saladillo Tel., 952 88 28 34) where you get a beautiful 3 course meal with a drink, linen tablecloths, attentive service and wonderfully cooked food, for 15 euros.

Room Tip: If you overlook the pool, you will also have road noise from N340 motorway, request side.

“Very nice and relaxing place, service a bit lost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Quite spontaneously we got a superior room and a parking space for two nights in this hotel. The room was wonderful, spacious, clean, calm, with a huge balcony. The gym is well equipped and just perfect. The pool is really nice, a bit too nice in the morning. When we wanted to dip into it before breakfast, we were watched curiously by the hotel staff, because the pool guard would be there not before 11am.

The food is great, the service friendly and polite. I appreciate that most guests are Spanish and you never have the feeling any area in the hotel (breakfast room, bar, lobby, pool, gym,...) is crowded, although it was fully booked in the weekend.

Nevertheless, I just give four points, because the service was not very attentive when it came to clean up the whole room. We ended up asking for new coffee cups and wine glasses twice and once for a new towel, because the room service had basically ignored the third bed in the room.

Nevertheless, this is a great place, if you neither mind not being right next to the beach nor not being in the city centre. By the way, the receptionist suggested the Playa del Christo to us, which has a huge parking space.

Room Tip: Book in advance
