“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2007

So charming! We stayed in the Florencia room and our friends stayed in the Deuville room. I definitely preferred our room. We saw most of the other rooms out of curiosity and they were so cool. Our room was beautiful and we were so comfortable. Nice outdoor seating area outside of our room. Spent the day and evening on the nearby beach. Sand is dark and will BURN your feet. Make sure you bring beach shoes that aren't so flimsy. Beautiful mountain view from the beach. Packed a lunch from a hearby supermarket and had the best day at the beach. Just extremely hot, not a cloud in the sky and not much shade to be found. At night, hung out on one of the patios by the hotel pool, chatting with friends. Made for very pleasant memories.

“Nice, but remote”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2006

This is a charming small hotel. Stayed in the 'Djerba' room which is a private room on the first floor balcony. Room was a good size and comfortable. I'd say it is one of the better rooms as it is private and quiet. The staff were very charming and helpful. They will serve you breakfast wherever you like until 12am! Very civilized indeed.

To stay here, you'll need a car and want to escape from the bustling life of Costa del sol. However, watch out, as it's very difficult to find! As other posters said, the directions from the hotel are very unclear. When heading from Malaga, keep on the AP7 highway heading for Algeciras, then after Marbella, change for the A7 heading for Algeciras or Estepona (do not go into Peurto Banus (ever!) keep on this highway, pass the marriott on your right. Slow down a little, pass the exit called 'Cancellada'. drive a little slower and it is the next exit, about 1/2km after Cancellada. There are no signposts on this exit, but after you turn in, you will see the signs for Albero lodge. Another landmark is a GARDEN CENTRE sign on the roof of a garden centre in big green capital neon letters, come off the highway when you see this, if you pass it, come off on the next exit and cross over the highway and drive back towards Malaga, enter the small side road, the entrance to the hotel is just at the entrance for 'beach park' apartment complex.

Another tip - make sure your room has a plug in mosquito killer, otherwise.....

I think this is a nice place, but remote and everything is a car ride away. Good if you are familiar with Spain and driving in Spain.

Final tip, try a trip or 1/2 nights at Ronda. 80 mins drive from the Albero lodge, but a lovely charming blast of the traditional Spain, without being too touristy.

“really dissapointed!”

arrived at albero lodge for a much needed break, very dissapointed! totally misrepresented on the map on the alberos web site. at least a 10 minute walk to the beach,it was filthy with huge piles of domestic rubbish. heaven is also shown near to albero lodge and this was also a car ride away. the room we were in was deauville, very small and we could only get one person at atime in the bathroom. the room is very badly decorated, changing rooms more like.the room looked out to the garden but unless you had the curtains closed you had very little privacy from other guests walking past. the pool was ok but only 4 loungers for up to 18 guests.breakfast was extra 3.50 euros per day, no choice but good value. tried to book into other hotels but after hours on the net reluctantly decided to stay and make the most of it. spent most days at the beach bar heaven but we didnt expect to be driving every day.

  • Disliked — dark, badly decorated, too far from everything

“Nice placce to stay”

The Albero Lodge is very difficult to find but worth the trip once you get there! Its set in what seems a residential area & is basically a converted villa with varied themed rooms based on different cities. We stayed in Rhonda which was very nice but this was our 3rd choice. We were initially shown the Berlin room which is very severe with stark furniture & grey walls. It also had no curtain up at the window which looked onto the shower which is why we asked to be moved. We had a look at most of the rooms as we were checking out as the hotel was empty & they were very nice with New York & Fez being the best & most expensive. They had large sunken baths & were larger than the other rooms with access direct onto the pool & private gardens. We didn't eat at the Lodge but tried a chinese across the road which served the most delicious chicken satay & ate breakfast up the road at the Artists Cafe which was excellent. Overall worth a trip back.
