My husband and I stayed at Las Dunas from February 21 through 25, 2004.
We were looking forward to relaxation with luxury, service, and great food. The hotel disappointed from the moment we checked in. I had called in January and requested a reservation at the Michelin starred Lido Restaurant for the 21st at 8:00 p.m. When we arrived at the hotel I casually mentioned to the receptionist that we were looking forward to our meal only to be informed that the restaurant was closed until the 25th of the month. No effort was made by the hotel to inform us of this prior to our arrival.
In the middle of our stay we returned in the afternoon to find that our keys did not work anymore. Somehow the hotel staff had decided that we were checking out that day. Fortunately I had my reservation forms to prove that they were wrong. By then housekeeping had gone home and our room had not been cleaned. It was after 7:00 p.m. before someone finally came to clean and that was only after two calls and a visit to reception.
After four nights of heavy perspiration and then chills, my husband and I discovered that the mattress on the bed had been covered with a plastic moisture barrier.
We asked if we could order breakfast a la carte instead of getting the buffet. We were told yes. What we were not told is that the price of the "a la carte" was the same as the buffet. I paid 24 euros for coffee, brown toast, and a bowl of fruit.
When I asked if the reception had any customer feedback forms I was greeted with surprise and told "no". The Luxury Hotels of the World website also does not allow for feedback.
On the plus side, the hotel is nicely decorated and the grounds are beautiful. The acoustic guitar and piano music in the lounge was great.
So in the future, go for the music - but, don't stay.
