“Hotel excellent, avoid apartments if going on holiday though.”

Having stayed here for work for a few months I have very little complaints. Hotel was spotless and rooms were nicely decorated. Staff were pleasent but as my Spanish is non-existent and they on the whole didn't speak English there wasn't much "banter". Might have proved problematic if there had been any problems but everything was excellent so no real need to complain etc. Spent some time in the apartments which were very basic but again very clean. If you're going on holiday I would only recommend the hotel but if your work is paying for it there are far worse places you could be staying! Food in the restaurant was very good but menu was limited and got a bit monotonous after a while but there is plenty of other places nearby for variety.

“Elegant!”

I love this hotel! We ended up staying here when the hotel we wanted to stay at was full. We have stayed here three times since then, during the winter, spring, and early summer. The entire hotel is typically Andalucian with the Moorish influenced architecture. Antiques and artwork decorate the common areas. The furishings are one of a kind and The rooms are all individually decorated, the baths are luxurious with a large bathtub in the bedroom or in the bathroom. It is just beautiful! I found the staff to be courteous and helpful. They were an excellent source for ideas of things to do and where to go. The restaurant is outstanding. My only dissappointment was they didn't offer an English menu which seemed odd since most of the staff and a fair portion of clients speak English. I speak some Spanish, but they use a lot of exotic ingredients that aren't common in Spanish cuisine. Our waiter who spoke pretty good English, had to ask someone in the kitchen what some of the foods were in English.
The grounds are exquisitley landscaped with palms and exotic plants and there is a spa in the basement. This would be a perfect hotel if it had a view of the ocean. Instead it is buried in a residential (posh) neighborhood. Which on the plus side means it is quiet at night. I do recommend requesting a room on one of the upper floors. The noise from banquets and the lobby can be heard in the ground floor rooms.

“Exactly what we were looking for.”

I've just arrived from Cádiz and my husband and me stayed 4 nigths at Los Jándalos, and I must say that it's a wonderful place. The surroundings are really nice, the whole hotel is really beautiful, full of details of good taste, a very nice decoration (I even thought of asking where had they bought some picture frames, clocks, tables, chairs...).

The hotel rooms (we stayed at the hotel) are incredible. The bed makes you feel you're in a fairy tale, and that round bath near the window is fantastic!

The staff is very helpful and friendly, and the food (we had dinner, lunch and breakfast there) is really good (specially the milhoja -a dessert- and the magret with foie).

It's a pity we couldn't try the Spa... But we used both swimming pools!

I can recommend it, and, in fact, I have recommended it yet!

“Loved Los Jandalos”

I totally disagree with the previous reviewer. I stayed two weeks in December 2003 in the apartment and had a fantastic time. The price was incredible, I think 63 euros for night for a two-bedroom apartment.
They were perfectly clean, the bathroom was perfectly normal, and the kitchenette exactly what I needed to prepare food for my 15 month old.
The kitchen had only a few pans, but they were really all we needed.
There was a clothes washing machine in the apartment, however, you did have to go to the parking lot basement for the dryer, which was the only disappointment. The management was outstanding: they answered all of our questions, made recommendations, dinner reservations, and even provided us with a babysitter on two nights. We stayed here and used it as a base for day trips all over southern Spain and would most definitely stay there again.

“Beware. Not that good... and full of wimps”

Well, first of all, in this resort we have to talk about two (very) different acommodations: the, let's say, pure hotel rooms, and the apartments/villas or whatever name you want to use for them. The place, originally a three star, was given the fourth some two years ago when the hotel rooms were added, and I don't know why, because it was exactly by then when it all began to go down the spout. It always happens when a place loses its exclusiveness (although it's not clear for me that this resort had it at any point in time). The high quality of the new rooms (to be honest, really clean, deluxe, comfortable rooms) and the beautiful surrounds (garden, pool, snack bar and so on) are not arguments enough to forget about the terrible apartments. For a start, avoid taking off your shoes if you haven't got a clean towel to put on your feet, or you'll see what a big crust of filth they will develope in case you place them directly on the floor. Horrible.
Another desolating part of the apartments are the bathrooms: it depends upon your luck's mood of that day if you get a more or less ok one, or if you are about to suffer a "not-so-good" odor (quite familiar sometimes unfortunately...) that will make you think the last guests have tried to leave you their "not-best" regards in the WC. And what can we say about the prices?. Absolutely outrageous, and the worst part of all is that is really easy to realise that what you're given is not worth the 10% of the money you pay for it. But one thing is true: if you love posh-friendly places, sixteen year-old guys driving daddy's car, high hipocrisy level, and so on, you will push like mad for it, and you will avoid the apartments paying an even higher price for one of the new hotel rooms, or you'll even give up the terrible state of the apartments instead. I definitely won't put a cent on it. I find it a quite unpleasant atmosphere... but it's your choice.

Dear Net-Travelers, We have attentively read the communication from an unknown traveller who refers to our hotel, Los Jándalos, in El Puerto de Santa María. We are understand and are sorry this persons stay has been so frustrating, but we must take a stand in our defence at these accusations, which to our understanding are misdirected, and have nothing to do with the reality of our hotel. Certainly our institution is not perfect, but the description in this anonymous post is unfair. Visitors to Spain know there is important legal protection and due process for any supposed abuse or disservice to the customer, protection that immediately works if the customer proceeds with the most minimum claim. It is also well known, even by the most inexperienced traveller, that any complaint or concern may be addressed to the hotel receptionist or manager, who are always available, such as in our Hotel Los Jándalos. This is the first time in twelve years in the hotel business that anyone has expressed negativity concerning their stay at our hotel under the guise of anonymity. Common knowledge suggests the biggest accusations and defamations in history have been made from anonymous persons. One last request, for your tranquillity, and if you desire truth, please visit our web-site. You will find our professional and elegant facilities at your disposal, and information concerning our rates, which are published for common knowledge. Enrique Fdez. de Bobadilla y L.Director
