Whilst this hotel in El Puerto de Sanat Maria is 15 minutes drive from Cadiz, it is one well worth the effort in finding. The location is very quiet in a rural setting next to a forest park. The hotel has its own pool and other sports facilities, such as the marina, are not far away. There is also a sandy beach adjacent to the marina.
The accommodation is generally on the ground floor, so ideal for anyone with mobility problems, although we were given one of the rooms above the reception/restaurant/lounge. There is a restaurant boasting a comprehensive menu, but we did not use it. The breakfast had a reasonable selection.
There is free WiFi, but reception is only good in the reception/lounge rather than bedrooms.

We had a driving holiday of Andalucia. We spent a night at Dunas Puerto on our way to Tarifa and enjoyed our stay there so much that we had another two nights on the way back north.
Admitedly it was out of season but why we enjoyed our stay here was because most hotels hadn't opened their pools but Dunas had, so we had hours of entertainment between our day trips to Cadiz. The pool is a good size.
The rooms are chalet style, but were clean and adequate. The hotel is well situated, just a 100 metres or so from the beach. El Puerto de Santa Maria is also a lovely place to stay, with some fantastic fish restaurants that were worth the visit alone.
The reception was effecient and helpful even though it took over ten minutes to check in.
Previous reviews suggest the food was appalling, but the meal we had on one night was acceptable although it would not have won any gourmet awards. The bar seemed to have fluctuating opening hours (which frustrated the alcoholic in our party), and the service was frosty but OK once we had established ourselves on the seats at the bar.
The weekday rates were fairly reasonable, but we felt it was overpriced at weekends.
Although we enjoyed our stay here, I don't think we would return in peak season as I can imagine it might become our worse nightmare. Out of season though it was good enough to stay twice!!

Check-in was OK - a little slow, but the staff were friendly and moderately helpful. There is no concierge, so getting recommendations for local restaurants etc. is a bit hit and miss.

The bedroom was a chalet-style affair, all a bit hi-de-hi, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Nowhere near enough storage space however, and the bathroom was "basic" to say the least. Hot water for the shower was either freezing or scalding.

The restaurant is a disaster zone. It is very brightly illuminated, and has zero atmosphere. You sit on plastic chairs covered in some sort of fabric cushioning. Breakfast isn't available until 8AM - no use if you want an early start, and the food in the evening is just awful. The Waiting staff looked disinterested, and the service was poor. We only ate there once.

The bar is no better. Zero atmosphere, disinterested staff and opening hours seem to vary day by day. It's not open early in the evenings, and it shuts early as well.

There is a big pool, but no bar, so no chance at all of a few al fresco sharpeners.

This hotel has 3 stars, but it really only warrants 2. If you just need somewhere to sleep inbetween rounds of golf and eating/drinking in town, it's just about acceptable, but I certainly wouldnt recommend it it as a holiday hotel.

We recently stayed at the Dunas Puerto for 2 days. It is a 2 minute walk to the La Playa Puntilla. Our rooms were very nice and the staff was friendly and spoke English. Our first room had no working heater so they quickly changed us and gave us a ground floor room. Our Boxer was with us so the ground floor was perfect. She was able to run around off leash and no was bothered by it. (This is off season time though) There is an inground pool too. Parking is available at no extra charge.
