“a very poor 1 Star.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We had previously stay at the Vincci Estrella del Mar Hotel in Marbella a Five Star Hotel.
We are now living 25% of the time in the hills above Marbella and wishing to travel Spain
We thought a trip to Cadiz, We could also meet up with my wife’s cousin and his family who had flown to Spain from Canada the previous week. I thought having seen the Vincci brochure, I would book two nights at the Vincci Costa Golf Club a four star Hotel in Sancti Petri on the Costa de la Luz.
My wife and I arrived and booked in, our first impression was “very” modern and contemporary, not really to our personal taste, but that is very subjective value,
No one too help with the luggage. Then we got to the room 3104, a ground floor suite with the terrace facing the pool area (could have been very, very nice). What hit us when we walked in was an overpowering smell of damp. I then went to open the net curtains covering the terrace doors to open them.
The curtains were cluttered with dead ants, approx 1cm long, literally 100’s of them on the curtains lots dead and lots dying, then I looked down to the floor and there were 100’s more there and under the sofa. The glass on the terrace doors was filthy dirty, this had NOT been cleaned, either inside or outside for week’s. You then get tempted to look further, damp pushing the plaster off above the skirting board probably coving 70% of the lineal area, some areas of the “Wooden” floor bursting away from the walls leaving gaps of 1 – 2 cm wide (is this where the ants came from?), cobwebs in the table lamp shades. Cobwebs in all of the corners of the room. We then progressed to the bedroom, the linen looked grey, we opened the bed and it felt damp. We then decided to go to the bar for a quick calm down drink. The bar counter was very sticky and dirty. There were large splash areas on the walls which looked like wine and food, with some relief the glass looked clean, but the barman put them on a dirty tray, the whole area looked “tatty” We discussed whether we could slum it for at least one night for the sake of meeting Darren and his family. My wife said how long would it take to drive back to Elviria (Marbella), I said 2.5 hours, She then said she could not slum it, she would rather sleep in the car. Here’s interesting when we went to reception to say “shove” your grubby room, the male receptionist said “I fully understand how you feel” not, I’m sorry let me show you to a clean room!, it was with almost total resignation, I think he was quite used to hearing similar comments, he did not want me to settle the bar bill, a Gin & Tonic + black coffee…..
...........Be warned! …… ..
A copy of this will be sent directly to the hotel and to the headquarters of Vincci Hotels, i look forward to their comments

Room Tip: Look away from this area altogther.....

“Spacious Spa Hotel with some problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

This large contemporary Hotel promises much in its information but unfortunately it just doesn't pull it off as the standard of cleaning and food don't quite come up to what is expected. The suites are very large and well equipped with sofas and flat screen TVs in both rooms and a table with seats. The outdoor areas and public rooms are spacious and well furnished. The pool looks welcoming with a lifeguard providing towels for the sun loungers and a poolside bar with a friendly barman and a lovely area to sit with good shade. Indeed I found all the staff very helpful and friendly. It's nice to see a smiling face despite the long hours they work.

The spa offers a small spa pool with several treatment areas and the girls offered a good service though seem to restrict your choice of when to use the spa and have treatments till the early evening despite the Hotel being quiet while we were there. The staff here had very little English which to some may be a disadvantage but to me that adds to the charm of visiting a place a bit more Spanish.

Unfortunately the TV has very limited English channels unless you wish to pay 20 euros for the Media package to get broadband connection and movies though you can access the internet free if you sit next to the reception area. The cleanliness in our room left a lot to be desired with evidence of the last occupants everywhere in the form of numerous hairs, particularly prevalent in the bathroom on the floor and in the washbasins but the floor in the sitting area had obviously not been cleaned either. Other people in our party asked to be moved because their rooms were damp and grubby and they were moved without any problems. As with many Hotels the drinks at the bar are quite expensive. 7 euros for a G&T. The food at the buffet breakfast was good with a very large selection of cold continental and hot items but the evening meal buffet was disappointing both in its choice and quality.

The rooms overlooks the Sancti Petri golf course designed by Sevi Ballesteros but I was told this is quite expensive to play and actually only has 14 holes! Not sure if that was a joke at my expense but certainly the Hotel seemed keener to offer a preferential rate at the Villa Nueva golf course a good fifteen minutes drive from the Hotel. It is a fifteen minute walk to shops and bars and ten minutes to the beach.

I suspect that this Hotel is struggling to maintain standards on such a large complex with a limited number of staff as like many in Southern Spain they cut costs to try and survive the recession. This often results in the availability of some good deals but can also mean a drop in standards. It's hard to blame the staff who are obviously trying their best.

Room Tip: Many rooms are five minutes walk from reception. Good if you want a quiet night but a long way from...

“Great stay. Enjoyed every minute”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011 via mobile

Me and my boyfriend went on week holidays and stay in vinnci hotel. It's been amazing, room nicely clean, big rooms and enjoyable big sized terrace. Good breakfast, plenty to choose from.only thing could be improved is the waitress service, talking about eachother behind their backs , complaining who does less than anyone else maybe u should get on with ur job so people wouldn't have to queue to wait for table outside and talking rudely about " if they don't like they can F.O, is less than tasty. Seeing some quests complaining about too many kids by the pool shouting... Hmm cmon! Its holiday place! They are kids! Enjoying jumping into water expressing themselves shouting and screamin! If u fancy place that is quiet ( death) look for something "spa" like
Because in costa hotel people just enjoying every minute anyway they want and yes they do have children!
Humidity ?? Guys ! Find anyplace there whatdoes not have this kind of problem!!! Chill out at least Ivan tell they trying to fight with it. Oh yeah one think I found veryvery bad! No iron in d room and even when we asked for it atreception we have been told it cost 6 €!! that's just not right. People paying lots for stay there so maybe that wouldn't kill u guys to be a bit generous . Other than that all good! Thanks

“Not matching with the internet site”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

Rooms are not clean (humid walls, dirty windows, no plants on the balcony but filled with sand and cigarets). Very noisy around the pool and in the restaurants. Bad food especially in the pool bar (even a club sandwich is bad). Finally just stayed one night, because very disappointed. Nobody at arrival to assist with the luggage. The internet site seemed nice, but it is not luxury at all.

Esteemed guest,

We are sorry that your experience in our hotel has not been as you would have desired. Thank you for choosing Vincci hotels and for sending us your comments and insights into our service and our installations. They will be taken into account as they help us make our service each day better than the last.

In regards to the humidity problem, we´d like to inform you that it is an inconvenience that affects the entire area. We are working on it and very soon it will be taken care of.

In the common areas, overall around the swimming pool, there are many children and it is unavoidable that upon occasion there is more noise than normal during specific hours of the day.
Regarding the food in the swimming pool bar we only serve fresh fish and fresh local products which our guests tend to like.

In respect to the service, we´d like to inform you that we have two porters from 8 in the morning until 12 at night. It is possible that at the moment of your arrival our employees were busy in other entrances or exits, in which case it would only have been necessary to ask one of our staff for help and our receptionists and summer interns would have accompanied and helped you with your luggage.

We are at your disposal for anything that you need.

Kindest regards

“Es hat uns gefallen!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011
