The hotel is in an area of Spain where tourism is less developed. That suits us fine but don't expect to find plenty of gourmet restaurants or bars on every streetcorner. The area is generally a little budget oriented, and La Barrosa Palace is one of very few five star hotels. It is inside a resort with several hotels - each catering to different economics and preferences. The Palace is not really 5-star - for that the small details are lacking. However we prefer practical, nice hotels with good amenities and attractions that suit our children (two boys and one girl -7-17 years). For that, this hotel scored nicely with a fantastic beach right outside, a clean swimming pool, sports activities nearby, and friendly and courteous staff. The poolside area is on the small side making many guests (who are mostly germans) "reserve" their sunchairs in the wee hours of the morning. Some imagination and you will move chairs around to find suitable areas - but slightly annoying nevertheless. Prepare to pay a deposit for beach towels and pay for sunchairs at the beach. The food is OK but very far from stars in Guide Michelin. Pricing in general is however very reasonable. Thus we would rate the hotel 4-and-half stars but very good value for money.
