“Very Disappointing, apartment very poor standard.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

Having spent some time reviewing where to stay in the Costa de Luz we decided on the Sol Sancti Petri based on the reviews listed but were so disappointed with the apartment. The staff are all lovely and the place is very busy and from the outside it looks well kept. However the standard of the apartment we were allocated (Room 278 in Block 10) left a lot to be desired. Firstly it smelt damp on arrival, the place is old and looks it,wardrobes shabby, as is the bathroom but the kitchen/living area was the worst. Kitchen cabinet doors about to fall off, fridge has rusty shelves, two rings for cooking and only one pot and a pan, and finally ants crawling around the tap area. As we had travelled from Portugal (3.5 hours by car) we decided to stay the night and review things in the morning, however my husband could not sleep with the damp and ended up with a cold and sore throat and we just left the next morning although had planned to stay for 5 nights. Had booked through Hotels.com and was not a cheap deal however once we got the UK number they were helpful in organising the cancellation and refund. Parking is also a problem and they charge €10 per day for the underground hotel car park.

Would not recommend to anyone or return ever. It is listed as 2 star accomodation and was priced at the top end of this grade so our expectations were high. Most times this works out well - we have never had a problem with this standard for self catering before, however, this time the 2 star rating is over-generous.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2008

Very good hotel, right on the beach. Check-in was quick an defficient, rooms were quite large. Breakfast was great and staff was very friendly. Parking could be a problem at times as not enough parking spaces. Also note that this area is quite windy and as such is not the best option for a beach holiday unless you don't mind the wind and the sand blowing towards you every now and then.

“Really Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2008

Spent 7 nights here and really enjoyed it. Although the resort of Novo Sancti Petri is purpose built and therefore lacks a bit of soul, these apartments are excellent, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms were cleaned every day and the whole place is spotless. It's also true that the beach is only 150mtrs away, and what a magnificent beach it is.
While we didn't try the buffet during our stay, we did have a couple of meals in the snack bar, and the prices here were really surprising. A burger with bacon & cheese and chips for €5, pizza for €6 and breast of chicken and chips for €6.50 is excellent value.
Very hard to fault anything with this complex, except perhaps the cost of using the internet at €4 per hour. The provision of wi-fi in the lobby would be a nice touch.
Would definitely come again.

“Continues to be great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2007

I keep coming back to the Sol Sancti Petri and it continues to meet and exceed my expectations. This visit was no exception. Friendly and efficient staff. Very pleasant room/apartment with pool view. The quality of the buffet breakfast seems to have improved since my last visit but the machine-produced coffee is still vile!!! Buy a cafe-con-leche at the bar instead.

My suggestions for improvement are
1. Update the bathrooms - they are becoming dated
2. Provide a small amenity pack for guests containing a) a sponge/scrubber (for washing up dishes) b) a little bottle of washing up liquid c) a little bottle of kitchen cleaner
3. More English-language TV channels would be welcome.

I am returning for another visit in September and am looking forward to it.
