The Barcelo did not leave any distinct impression. The hotel is well located, a couple of 100m from the ocean, and close to a bus stop (bus #1) which brings you into the old town in less than 10 minutes (buses go until well after midnight so returning is no concern). The hotel is clean, the junior suites are spacious but our room had no view to speak of. Reception was understaffed at times, which meant that our questions and requests for information did not always get the necessary attention. The Barcelo Cadiz seems to be passed on when Barcelo corporate budgets were distributed and could use some "poshing up".
Parking is accessed through a car elevator and is 20E/day. While expensive, this compares to the public parking nearby which charges 25E/day. You don't need a car anyway when in Cadiz as cars are "non grata" in the old town and parking spaces hard to find.
We found Cadiz to be a wonderfull town, lots of marvellous small streets, a very lively, vibrant atmosphere and seriously underrated compared to its more famous Andalusian sister Sevilla.
