“good hotel - great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

This Parador (also, confusingly ,called Hotel Atlantico) is not your traditional type of parador. It is a modern two block city hotel. Nevertheless, inside it retains the standards and character of the Parador group. It is in a great location, right beside the sea within a two minute walk of Caleta beach, as well having its own outside pool. The old town of Cadiz is less than 10 minute walk away through the old streets where nobody could feel anything but safe even very late at night.

“a shadow of its former self. Tired and due for a refit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

In a fantastic and unique position. Standard rooms are well used and need refurnishing, Superior rooms satisfactory but lower floors facing the park have disappointing views and suffer traffic noise. Compared with my first an frequent visits some twelve years ago the general standard has declined. The restaurant now offers a very limited carte menu as does the coffee shop and bar. Staffing levels on the catering side seem inadequate with consequent effects on service syandards. On sunday evening I waited for thirty minutes for a waiter to approach me. Ther was only one very harrassed person on duty to service a quite large numbe rof clients. I am very fond of this hotel and thus saddened to witness its decline. Be warned that on saturdays the hotel is likely to be taken over by wedding parties and other functions crowding the public areas and bar facilities.

“Good hotel near the cultural centre of Cadiz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2009

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on a brealfast included basis. The hotel was in a good position for wandering the narrow streets of Cadiz and visiting the many cultural delights of the city. One bonus was that the hop on/off tour bus stops right in front of the hotel! We had a good room with a balcony and great sea-view. The buffet breakfast was great with almost anything one would want. The manager was frequently 'floating about' making sure people felt welcomed and enjoying their stay.

“Nice Hotel in great position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2009

Stayed for one night as part of a tour of southern Spain/Portugal and this is a nice hotel. It is starting to look a little dated (But not run down in any way). My room was at a right angle to the sea so I got both a sea view and a view over the rooftops of the city, throw in a sunset and the balcony is a very pleasant place to be. Good breakfast facilities (Don't arrive late though, they get a little grumpy!). If you like a jog when away, there is a teriffic route all they way along the paved sea front right to the docks- wonderful!

“Decent Hotel in Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

We had a week here in June having visited Cadiz twice before. This was our first stay in a city centre hotel. Although Paradors are normally historic buildings converted to hotel use, this one is a modern 80s style building.
The Parador is in a great location for eating out and night time activities. The large Playa Victoria is easily accessable by the number 7 bus which stops just outside the hotel and the smaller La Caleta beach is 2 minutes walk from the hotel. If your main priority is a beach holiday you may find the Tryp La Caleta or Playa Victoria hotels more convenient. The Parador also has a lovely pool and garden with sun loungers.
The rooms are clean and most have balconies with sea views. The air con seemed to be turned off during the night which led to the room becoming a bit stuffy. The public areas are spotless and well maintained. We did not have any meals in the hotel but found the bar pleasant for a night cap.
The hotel has free outdoor parking in the grounds and you can also pay to use the garage. We found that there was ample space in the free parking area. Parking in the city is at a premium and normally hotels charge around 15 euro a day so this is a significant perk.
The old town of Cadiz is great and within easy walk of the Parador you will find the city's best restaurant El Faro and several other excellent bars and restaurants. The Balandro a short walk from the Parador past the Genovies Gardens is good as are a number of places just off Calle San Felix and Plaza Mina.
Be cautious when booking if travelling with a spouse or partner - double rooms are scarce and even if you reserve a double you may not get it. We had this problem on arrival and sadly the receptionist was distinctly unhelpful although in fairness we did manage to get a double room the next day. We had been told the hotel had no idea if a double room would be available later in our stay and we would be contacted if it did - had we not gone to enquire about another matter we would not have been given our new room. That minor hassle on arrival and the temperamental air con were the only downsides to this hotel. We also received a voucher for 3 free nights in another Parador on checking out which was a pleasant bonus.
