“A Lonely Planet Midprice Recommendation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

www.hotel-gonzalez.com
This small hotel is recommended in the 8th edition of Lonely Planet's "Spain" guidebook.
The hotel has a great location - only about 100 yards from the Mezquita. It is non smoking and has wifi in the rooms . The rooms are small but modern. The hotel has no dining facilities, but is surrounded by many restaurants and tapas bars. I booked through Priceline and paid 43 euros per night during the early December slow season.

“Character hotel in prime location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Marvellous location in the old town, close to the amazing mesquita. Room was fine, overlooking courtyard which was in need of some tlc and lobby area was in need of de-cluttering. Advertised breakfasts in hotel were no longer available, so tea/coffee making facility in room would have been good. No hot water for 24 hours during stay, staff apologetic but no compensation offered. Quiet except for occasional loud bangs from other bedroom doors (or maybe lift).

“genteel shabby with good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

OK it is old and the rugs and funiture worn, but it is clean, it had balconies and a courtyard, it is a block from the mesquita and the staff are helpful. It was comfortable, too. And the breakfast across the street was an ok start. (a spanish breakfast of toast, tomato puree spread, olive oil and cafe con leche).

Room Tip: the room with a balcony on the interior courtyard was the largest we had in several hotels in Spain

“Great location but basic room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

The taxi ride to the hotel was very exciting as it is located in the old part of Cordoba where the streets are barely wide enough for a car. Being right in the old part of the city was a real thrill. This also meant that there were plenty of restaurants to hand which was just as well as the hotel didn't serve food. The rooms were basic and the beds were hard, but the ensuite was a good size. The hallways are all tiled, so although they were clean, they were also quite noisy when people were coming and going from their rooms - this didn't help the sleep quality! The wi-fi was only available in the patio area, but at least it was available. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us organise our train trip to Granada.

Room Tip: Choosing one that doesn't face onto the street will reduce the street noise element.

“Great location but would not recommend”

Room very dark and small. Had an odor like boiled cabbage. Had to sit sideways on toilet no room for legs.
