stayed at the gran capitan in cordoba for all of one night back in march.

rooms that weren't facing the street were dark and dimly lit. bathrooms were clean and quite large. rooms themselves were of a good size.

main problems were:

1) unhelpful (and frankly rude) staff. my friend got locked out of his bathroom in his room and when we told the receptionist, he shrugged and handed him a paperclip. i don't know whether this was a suggestion that he looked like a thief and should therefore be able to open it with this, or sheer laziness on his part.

2) the breakfast - appaling. everything looked stale and that's not a lie.

we actually modified the eagles song "hotel california" to "hotel capitana" and sang it

cordoba is a beautiful place though and i can't wait to go back. if i were you, i'd stay in one of the charming hotels in la juderia (jewish quarter) near the mezquita, right in the heart of historic cordoba. these hotels have character and traditional andalusi design. oh and they're cheap!

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel. This is an objective assessment. This hotel is in need of refurbishment. The rooms are old, musty smell and bedlinen old. Bathroom is smelly, tiles are old with some mould seen. Poor hospitality as staff are unhelpful, unfriendly, surly and serves grudgingly. Breakfast was a let down as some of the food served were cold as though they were leftovers from the day before. However, plus points are , it is within walking distance of the train station and within walking distance of main tourist attractions.

Attractive large room. Bathroom fully tiled. A/c comfortable, but could not get truly cold(as we like to sleep)Nonetheless it worked. Lobby and bar area ---ok, did have outside seating, but on a heavily traffic'ed street. . Staff welcoming. Downside: not close to any historic attractions. At least a 20-25 minute walk. If returning would most likely select a property closer to the historic district.

Good service level all round. Check-in smooth, friendly and helpful.
Breakfast wasn't included in our stay.

Room was a very good size and the bathroom was enormous, one of the biggest I've used anywhere in the world.

Our stay was in the middle of Winter ( it rained intermittently) so the tiled floors everywhere made perfect sense for the very hot summer.

Not in the most central location, but Cordoba is a small town really.
Everything was only a 10 minute walk away.

Would stay there again.
