“How does this hotel qualify for 3 stars?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2009

The room was cramped with the smallest double bed possible and the fitted sheets did not fit so merely sitting on it dislodged the sheet from the very thin and uncomfortable mattress. There was nowhere to put the suitcases. The shower head was missing and it was almost impossible to sit on the toilet without banging against the washbasin. The reception staff was unwilling to help in getting train timetables and were iincapable of using the internet. Reception was manned by only one person and there was no porter available. The breakfast was apalling, very little choice, very cheapest quality and the "hot" breakfast was stone cold with frankfurters actually floating in cold water. The bacon was almost raw and the eggs were inedible. The restaurant was not open at night. The location is on the very edge of the old city, a good 20 minute walk to the Mesquita and a 10 Euro taxi ride from the railway station. They tried to overcharge us on check-out with scant apology. I would not recommend this hotel at any level and have stayed in better 1 star establishments.

“okay with car”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2007

Hotel with a very narrow parking garage. Pool was very small, but clean. Hotel room was little old but quite large. Too bad for the noise of moving furniture in other rooms. Don't believe the hotel staff when they say it's just a 10 minute walk to the Mesquita: it's really 20-25 min.

“Not so good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2007

Just got back from my stay in Tunisia, it was my second time to the country. I love the country but next time I would choose a different hotel. The staffs are great and can’t do enough for you but the food is often cold and sometimes uncooked, at first the food was great after a few days of eating food that all tastes the same with what’s being offered not really changing from day to day you start to crave some decent food although we were all in the second week we ate out most nights. The hotel staff as I mentioned before were great, this excluding the cleaner, the shower maintainer guy and the mini bar refiller who one of which stole my mobile on the last day. Good bar staff, animation team, but dodgy thieving cleaners and rubbish food there are hundreds of hotels in Tunisia do yourself a favour and chose another one.

“Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2006

A depressing hotel, which lowered our spirits. The staff at reception were overworked and harassed. On our first night the air-conditioning blew out hot air instead of cold and, instead of checking properly, they assured us it was working fine. We insisted on moving rooms, which did help. Rooms are drab. The swimming pool bears little resemblance to the nice photos on the website.

The hotel is situated on a busy main road quite a way away from the sights. Unfortunately the walk along the river is not a pretty one, but there is a direct bus (number 3), which takes you straight to the Mesquita.

Given these disadvantages, the price is too high and doesn't include breakfast.

“Not impressed with the Avarroes Hotel, Cordoba.”

The major plus for this hotel is the underground parking garage, very important if you are driving around Spain. But from then on, the hotel did little to justify having a three star rating: a leaking toilet, dimmer than usual lights, lots of street noise from the traffic outside, low end breakfast. Plus, after we had booked, they raised the rate on us because of the Cordoba Fair, but the fair didn't start until 6 days after we left Cordoba.
It is worth going to Cordoba to see the Mezquita and other sites as well, but I'd stay elsewhere next time, especially at the prices. Finally, they have a misleading web page picture: the hotel is an ugly square block building right on a busy street at the edge of downtown Cordoba. It's a least a kilometer walk, probably more, to the Mezquita.
After touring Spain for several weeks, this hotel struck me as the least value for the price of any we stayed at.
