“Pleasantly surprised”

After reading some of the opinions in this forum, we were really aware of a somehow terrible place, but were pleasantly surprised by clean and spacious rooms and the green and quiet area surrounding the hotel. You do need a car to reach the centre but if you walk the 10 min to the next bus stop you will reach everywhere without stress and you will be happy to reach a peaceful area after hours of sightseeing in a busy city. the breakfast is ok but dinner is not advisable, only if you can't walk the 5 minutes to the Parador of Cordoba, where we had a very nice dinner- prices for excellent food very reasonable but the wine is quite high priced.from the parador you have a nice view over the city and hills around.
regarding the pool we guess that the hotel has to have a life guard for the size of the pool- this is law and probably they are just saving money by not opening it.
we explored as well the hinterland of Cordoba and it is very green and very isolated, so a full petrol tank is advisable.you can find the famous pata negra pigs under the thousands of oak trees.

“Swimming Pool or Sludge Pit?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2007

Stayed at this hotel while on Andalucian Tour. Felt sorry for the single barman who alone served the indoor bar area, outside terrace and then to cook and serve snacks as and when requested. The pool area is nothing more than disgusting, the water was little more than green sludge with plentiful helpings of litter and debris, the only alternative was the pool at a neighbouring hotel at a cost of 11 Euros per person, with little concern from Las Aldefas staff. Around the perimeter sat old tired and torn matresses on unkempt sunbeds and in a raised corner was an decrepid unattended outside bar with old fridges chattering away merrily. On one ocassion when returning to our room after breakfast, my wife put the credit card style key into the room lock and opened the door, a bit concerning as our room was two doors further along the bland corridor. Hope you like cold buffet breakfasts because that is all that is on offer and evening meals are highly uneventive and forgetful. Its a shame really as this hotel has so much potential with panoramic views across the city from the bar terrace among wavering palms but when you return from a hot days sightseeing etc, a welcoming cool swim is more relaxing than a visit to a Sludge Pit .

“so so disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2007

We were attending a flamenco concert at 10pm that evening and with living 150kms away we decided to reserve a room. The main criteria of our choice was access to a swimming pool. Even in September the temperatures can reach 37dgs C & so we were imaging the coolness of the water, their brochure showed a large pool, plenty of loungers and a poolside bar with lots of tables & chairs for dining. The location of this hotel is excellent, 10mins out of the city, higher up so wonderful views of the city with a slight breeze. The approach along a sweeping driveway through the gardens is beautiful. Checking is was cold, impersonal, totally lacking a welcome. We were given instructions to our room. Fabulous large room, wonderfully appointed as was the bathroom with excellent toiletries. Our beds were so comfortable, linen was of excellent quality and the whole place spotlessly clean. We asked a chambermaid for extra pillows and she returned almost immediately with a huge smile and the pillows and informed us that if we needed anything else nothing was too much bother, just ask.

We returned to the reception to enquire whether we could get snacks out by the pool at 3pm. No, snacks were only available in the bar next to reception. Gathering towels and books we walked out to the swimming pool. Shock, horror! It was nothing more than a cement pond with green algae water, floating with litter surrounded by broken loungers and no sign of a poolside bar in operation. I returned again to the impersonal receptionist and enquired, in Spanish, why I was not informed at the time of the reservation that the pool was closed. I received no positive response / apology just pointed to a note on the garden entrance door saying that that due to technical difficulties the pool was out of action.
Snacks in the bar, 2 sandwiches and a bottle of wine for 28 euros was a little strong but of good quality. It was a shame I had to ask reception 3 times for someone to come and take our order. Another worrying thing was one of our key cards would not open our bedroom door so I asked at reception for them to re-programme the info. A new receptionist with a great smile took the card , asked for the room number & re-programmed it. She did not ask for ID of any kind. I could have given any room number & robbed the place of its belongings.
Breakfast was disappointing, coffee cheap, stewed & disgusting and no hot food on offer. The waitress was asked twice to fill up the juice jugs and fresh cut fruit bowl but appeared to more interested in relaying used tables. Again, on check out the receptionist was totally non plussed, as soon as payment was verified she carried on with a phone call. A little 'we hope you enjoyed your stay etc.' or 'goodbye, thank you for using our hotel' would have worked wonders.
The staff were a let down apart from the chambermaids.

“Would not recommend”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2007

The hotel is very difficult to find. It is badly signposted from the city centre. There are no local amenities within walking distance, in terms of cafés, shops or bars. We choose this hotel because it has a pool. We arrived on 1st June and the pool was closed until the following week. This hotel is not up the standard of other four-star hotels where we stayed in Spain. There was no porter to help with our luggage, either on arrival or on leaving. The hotel does not have a Spanish atmosphere. It is more like an English hotel in Spain. A disappointing experience, after a week of four-star treatment. I wouldn't recommend this hotel, and would not stay there again.

“Quiet location, but avoid the weekend wedding functions!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2007

We stayed here for 3 nights in May 2007. Modernish buildings, good comfy quiet bedroom.Disappointed to find the pool not in use and looking like it had not been touched since the end of last season despite it being 30 degrees C.This hotel is not easy to locate, although once found it is a nice oasis of calm outside the city, (which is not the easiest to drive in).
Deal included breakfast which was ok, albeit in a sterile dining room. An English tour group monopolised things for two days, combined with a wedding reception full of excitable Spaniards on a Saturday night. Independent guests seem to get in the way! bar service is typically Spanish - try to ignore the guests at all costs!! Overall if the accommodation price you get is right it is worth considering staying at this hotel. (Pizza Pasta place 500m away is good value, despite sensationally rude bar manager)
