I stayed at this hotel for one night, the manager helped organise my taxi the next day My room was clean and big. I spoke my little bit of spainish from the moment I met the manager and he provided me with maps and local interest points.
I am staying there again in July 06 but I only use this hotel as a overnight stop for my furthur travels

we recently stayed at the la perla hotel almeria ,when we arrived approx 11.15 we were asked to leave untill 12oclock when we arrived back at about 12.15 the horrible little man on the desk sifted through the paperwork even though the booking was up on the comp in front of him .litterely done his best to be awkward.he eventually showed us up to our rooms.it was my brothers and his wifes first holiday so we wanted it to be special.we paid for b &b we hadsuch a job finding out what breakfast intailed the lady told us <who spoke a little english> tea coffee toast croissants ,oj, and maybe cereal.one morning we decided the four of us we would have toast and criossants.well there was an allmost puplic enquiry the girl behind the counter promptly went out to the manager on the desk, this was after she gave us our criossants and brought him to us he said if we want croissants wehave to payfor them he made usfeel so small and quite humiliated .my brother said clearly take them back well that was the first thing he understood we were humilated in front of the other people in restaurant.we had a bit of washing we needed doing it wasabout three small carrier bags the cleaning lady told us through the lady that spoke a little english that she took them home to do them she charged us 62euro we were absolutley discusted ripped off was putting it very mild then every time we went for breakfast the girl was very hostile and not abit nice the manager wasjust downright rude we felt totally unwanted guests not a nice feeling definatley wouldnt reccomend

“Cold discomfort”

If you're thinking of staying at the Hotel Perla on a winter holiday, my advice is: don't. The rooms are cold: the warm air heating comes on when they feel like it - 5,6,7pm. The water isn't hot: at best it's lukewarm. The first day I tried to shave, there was just a trickle. The bathroom had no heating at all. When I had a bath it reminded me of my National Service days - in and out quick.
There is no lift. My wife and I, in our seventies, had to climb two flights of stairs. The double bed was jammed up against the wall on one side, requiring us either to move it or vault over each other.
When I asked about buses to local coastal resorts, I wads told they might have a timetable but 'This is not a tourist information office.' There was no sign of senior hands-on management. We had booked for six nights: we moved out after three.
I suggest you try the excellent Torreluz III hotel instead - the rooms are warm and the food superb.

“Learn the Word for Breakfast! "desayuno"”

PROS
-excellent location for city exploration
-tiny square very atmospheric
-friendly staff
-lots of nice bars/restauarnts close by
-walk up the hill to christ figure for fab veiw over city
-easy to find after much wandering in winding streets

CONS
-bedlinen a bit jaded
-rooms at rear of hotel small
-got a twin instead of the double booked
-dining room being refrubed so breakfast in cafe next door (much loud level converstaion between hotel manager and bar tender then lovely breakfast of andalusian toast as as much tea as we could drink!)
-staff are NOT multilingual as advertised
-bathroom pokey but clean
-walls abit thin!
-no lift
-fair distance to bus/rail interchange
-noisy bikes in street below (but quite after about 10)

Overall what we wanted -its easy to be negative but lets face it we didn't go to Spain to see the hotel! We went up on the Train to Grandada to see the Alhambra which was fab and very easy. Wish I'd had more time to visit the Cabo de Gata.

If you get a cab from the Airport don't get fleeced! Pay absolutely no more than E 12. They do at least all seem to know where La Perla is. Bus is very easy from Airport but we were put off by the driver shouting at us in rapid Spanish!
