“Very nice hotel, but stay away from the restaurant!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

NH Ciudad de Almeria is a very nice hotel, well located in the city. The room I stayed was not the usual design of NH hotels in Spain, but I liked it; very comfortable bed, quiet room, although you are in front of the train station. The only minus of the room was the tv set, still a old style, non flat type, but all the rest was very nice. Excellent buffet breakfast in NH style (say you will have breakfast at check-in, you’ll save money).

The problem was at restaurant. My colleague and I decided to have dinner at the hotel: and it was not a good choice. Apparently, there was just a waitress, to attend the bar, the room service and restaurant service; that resulted in extremely long waits (a meal of 2 dishes took 1h50mins!!), warm food arrived semi-cold and, best of the best: we ordered a glass of wine. The waitress arrived with an open bottle. Filled the glass of my colleague, and halved my glass. Then, came back with another bottle, and filled my glass: one glass, two different bottles! That was totally unacceptable, and we rejected the wine, that was obviously oxidized. She came back with a new bottle, and eventually we had a good wine. I believe a restaurant of 4 stars hotel, at 9pm, must provide a better service to his customers, keeping an acceptable level of resources available, and never fall into disrepute on basics as it happened with the wine.

“Nice experience”

Nice hotel with friendly English speaking staff. Great location, few minutes walking distance from all the sights. The car parking is private, covered and secured, but narrow. Wi-Fi free is available only in the lobby but it is rather slow. The bedrooms and bathrooms are modern, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was buffet style, quite nice.
Generally we liked the Hotel. We will stay there again.

Highly recommend for business or pleasure. Superior room is definitely worth every dollar paid, _not_ overprices at all. Very nice!

“Hopefully you're not too thursty...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

This NH hotel is situated right between the center of Almeria and the sea promenade, so as a compromise location it is ideal. The car parking is private, covered and secured, but you have to look for it around the corner of the neighbouring block of offices. It's a five minutes walk from the parking to the hotel, so you'd better (when arriving) leave and (when departing) pack your luggage with your car in front of the hotel entrance.
We were rather disappointed by the fact that the hotel bar closed in the afternoon. It only opens again at 20:00 hr. in the evening. So you have to look elsewhere in town (or in your minibar) for your afternoon thurst (which is rather likely to happen in the southern Spanish sun).
For catering purposes there are better alternatives in town for the NH restaurant. Try the La Tagliatella Italian restaurant at the seaside of the Rambla, for instance, or one of the many tapas places.
Overall you'll have seen Almeria in a day. There's the Alcazaba, an Arab fortress with wonderful panoramas and a lovely garden with lots of water. And a stroll along the seaside is recommended, although rather monotonous. Avoid the harbour, even if it's situated at the end of the Rambla, a double lane with shops & cafes and a central green strip with fountains and so.
As in many other NH hotels we welcome the free WiFi, but we find it a pitty that this is only available for 30 minutes and only in the lobby. In the rooms you have to buy a 18 EUR for 24 hr. to Swisscom for a rather slow and unreliable equivalent access...

“Ticks all the boxes”

Over for three days business and leisure with my wife. Usually hire a car didn't bother this time, 14 euro taxi ride from the airport. Arrived 11.30 AM and was checked straight into the room. Staff were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble all good english speakers. Don't be put off by the food prices in the restaurant, we shared a starter that would have filled four people, and on another night had a starter as a main course, the food was excellent. Great location, 2 mins from main Avienda, and walking distance of all the sights. Seasoned business traveller I was very impressed.
