Booked this hotel just for four nights to get away for a beach break somewhere warm. We arranged transfers with Holiday Taxis, the return shuttle being about £50 for two of us, and was very happy with the service they provided.
We arrived at the hotel about 12.00 (noon) and there was no problem checking in at that time. The hotel was clean and bright, reception staff very nice. We had a room on the first floor (there are seven floors) overlooking the sea. Room was clean and big enough, two double beds in there, and plenty of storage space. The air con was not very good, and we found it better to sleep with the patio door open with just a net curtain over.
All the rooms have a small balcony with a few chairs and table, and they also have a small clothes line so you can dry your towels and cossies off. Bathroom was adequate with a bath and overbath shower that had plenty of power - however, although they provided a small bar of soap and some gel in the shower, that is it - so do take your own toiletries with you. The towels had lost their 'whiteness' - but were clean and fresh. We took our own beach towels with us, but the hotel do hire them out.
We stayed full board - and the food was fine. It is all buffet style, and there is a lot of food that is the same i.e. breakfast was a large choice, but the same large choice, and all the other meals had a lot of the same food i.e. salads, and pasta, with variants of meat and vegetables. Our daughter is vegetarian, and had she been with us I think the food choice would have been quite small for her - pizzas, chips, pasta and salad. There is a diabetic pudding each meal and also sugar free jams for breakfast. However there are plenty of places to eat locally that all looked quite good.
There are lots of sunbeds around the pool area, and whilst we had no problem getting one in October, I bet August and school holidays would not have been as easy! The hotel is right on the beach though, and there are sunbeds and shades available. The sunbeds from Tonys (outside the hotel, turn right a few yards) where comfier than the ones right outside the hotel. Three and a half euros a day was worth not being on my towel just on the sand! The beach is very fine gravel/sand, you can certainly walk barefoot no problem.
In the evenings there are lots of places within easy walking distance to go to. The entertainment in the hotel sounded awful - and we spent most evenings in the bar opposite - Colisimo. You can sit inside or out, and it seemed every hour is happy hour, two drinks for the price of one. A pint of beer for two euros twenty, and get one free, was not a bad deal. And spirits didn't seem to be measured like they are here . . . a very good bar indeed! Nice people to sit and chat to, and they have several tvs showing all the football that was on, but not overbearlingly so if you didn't want to watch them.
There are some nice walks along the prom in both directions, we walked along to the harbour which was a pleasant two mile stroll. There are a few shops selling tourist bits and pieces in a street round the corner from the hotel, and also a supermarket which was adequate for the bits you need to buy. There is a bus stop close to the hotel with buses to Roquetas town and Almeria. Although we went by booking direct, I spoke to the Thomas Cook rep who said if we had wanted to use her excursions she would have more than happily booked them for us.
Lots of people in wheelchairs at the hotel, both electric and manual. It is good disabled access with everything ramped and three lifts. There is even a ramp down to the beach. I spoke to one couple who said the room was fine, plenty of room to manouvre and the bathroom was fine for them and they thought it was very good indeed for diabled people.
The majority of people staying there were Spanish, with a handful of Germans and then us Brits. The average age when we were there was about 50 - I felt quite a youngster!
We wanted a quiet beach holiday for a few days, which is just what we got. If you want something Brit based with a loud nightlife, this is not the place for you. Would we go back again? Yes :-)
Room Tip: Half the hotel is sea facing, and the views are lovely
