The construction work is over, it is very quiet now around the hotel. I thought the staff of the hotel was very nice in a way befitting a small German town, e.g. enquiring how you had slept every morning. Perhaps a big smile and speaking some German helps?
I stayed in a single room which cost 65 euro including a generous buffet breakfast. The room was simple and very well kept with a spotless bathroom. When checking out the reception lady offered a gift: a delicious wafer with dark chocolate, made locally. The hotel got a price of the county of Thuringia for 'Gastfreundlichkeit' in 2007. It is near all the sights and restaurants in the centre of town.

The Hotel Anna Amalia is well-located in the heart of beautiful Weimar, about a 20 minute walk from the station. (There are handy buses, too.) The rooms are adequate for a 3 star hotel, although the beds can be VERY hard. More of a problem, though, is the attitude of reception to guests - dealing with you is not seen as a priority, and friendliness is obviously verboten.

Would i recommend it? The price is reasonable - although breakfast was not included - and the place looks pleasant, but then we get to the service... Perhaps i would, but with reservations.

Would i recommend a visit to Weimar? You bet!

The staff at this property are not friendly or accommodating. They do *not* speak English. They will put you in a room facing extremely loud construction that starts before 7am and not tell you. They think that you just want a bigger room (??) when you have the audacity to complain about having been woken up by the noise and request to change rooms. They will charge you EUR3 to borrow their front desk laptop for 5 minutes (!!) to use the internet because they don't have anything else to offer you. The manager of the hotel will scream at you when you politely ask for a small EUR7 adjustment for the room price for having been woken up the first night. He sarcastically asked if we thought he should just shut down the whole hotel on account of the construction just because we asked for the small adjustment. Do NOT stay here, there are other more polite establishments for this similar price range in Weimar.

My two cousins and I traveled Europe this Sept and loved this Hotel. Was a little hard to get to with a car, Many detours and 1-way streets, but once we found it, we loved it. Clean, spacious, friendly, great breakfast, nice size bathroom, what more could I ask for. And walking around the Hotel area at night was charming. Cobblestone walks, cute small fruit markets and shops. We found Restaurant Frauentor for our dinner and ate outside. Also, a wonderul experience! We were very happy with Hotel Anna Amalia.
