I loved this hotel. I fell head over heals for it as soon as I drove up to it on a pretty tree-lined street. It was just artsy enough to feel congruous with the cultural epicenter of Weimar, without feeling cheap or like they were trying to hard to be trendy. All of the public spaces were very pretty, and my room was clean, well appointed, and had gorgeous windows overlooking said street. My bed was very comfortable, too!

Some hotels you just do like and some you just forget. Alt-Weimar was a hotel which I liked. The old building (once the home of the founder of the “Steiner School”) is full of atmosphere. The big windows, the corridors and the magnificent restaurant were to my liking. The breakfast was also very good. But the room was a bit too small and with some peculiar furniture. There was also no air condition. The location was great, easy to reach by car (and parking just a few meters from the hotel), but still just a few minutes walking from the city centre. We had two marvellous days in beautiful Weimar and Hotel Alt-Weimar is a good choice.

Hotel rooms are very simple (Bauhaus style) but nice and clean.
Very nice breakfast with fresh produce and eggs freshly prepared in your preferred fashion.
The restaurant is very nice and has a typical cosy German atmosphere through its wood panelling and the black and white photos from days gone by. Food is of a slightly higher than average standard but also a bit more expensive than other places (cheaper than UK though!!)

The location is very close to the city centre (less than 5 minutes walk). Weimar is a nice East German town and a good base for visiting other interesting cities or Buchenwald.
I have stayed in the hotel for the third time, and can highly recommend it.
