“Quaint Small Hotel in Weimar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

My wife and I have been interested in the German Bauhaus movement and wanted to visit Weimar where the movement had it's beginnings. We stayed at the Alt Weimar hotel during our stay.

When we first arrived at the hotel in early afternoon, our room wasn't ready, so we stored our bags with the reception and headed out to the main town area. When we returned later that afternoon, our room was ready and our luggage was placed in our room.

We had originally intended to eat that evening at the hotel restaurant, which we had read was quite good, but I had had a late afternoon snack of donner kebab, a lovely German-Turkish treat I'd grown to like on my previous trips to Germany, so at dinner time, I wasn't hungry for a large, extended course meal.

Germany had been experiencing a heat wave up until that evening, but a cold front with accompanying rain arrived, and it actually became quite cold. Having traveled from hot and drought-striken Texas the week before, we enjoyed the cool and wet weather. Our sleep that evening was quite delightful with the windows partially open and the comforters pulled up!

We headed out early in the morning, so we didn't partake of breakfast at the hotel.

All in all these accommodations were quaint, clean, and pleasant

“Pricey, Average Hotel, but Great Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Booked 2 rooms and stayed 1 night. I've been in Weimar before, stayed in other villa style hotels for less but decided to give this hotel a try. I found the young hotel staff professional but cold, bordering arrogant and must have been other personel than what the other reviewers had. My business partner and I both had trouble with the hotel internet and satellite TV system and unknown to each other, separately went downstairs twice for help where we felt stupid for asking. There's no elevator and the rooms while clean and a bit artsy/funky, has inexpensive IKEA furnishings, pressed, plywood furniture that's custom cut and an average bathroom. The expensive restaurant and meals were superb. Breakfast too expensive and like other hotels in the area, should be included in the room rate.
Bottom Line: Expensive for this area of former East Germany and not up to the standards for the price asked. Would stay somewhere else next time.

“Very comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

Stayed 3 nights during a travel to a conferance. Very nice rooms, cozy and comfortable. Clean bath rooms. Thankful for the uncarbonated water given daily. Breakfast was very nice. Staff was very friendly and nice.
Two shortcomings noted, some of the staff members were not able to communicate in English. But the most worrysome one for me was that all guests had a key to one of the side entrances to the Hotels as they had no night watchman and had to use it after 10 pm. I found this a bit scary as this door was just off the street and felt a bit inscure by it. Also they had only two pined plug points of round types and as a result my laptop power went off and I coundnt re charge it. I asked for a adaptor from the reception but the lady at work during that time said they did not have one. may be she did not understand my request due to the language problem.
Other than for these the hotel stay was really nice.

“Quality, value and superb food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

I arrived unannounced at this hotel having driven from Rotterdam. I got a warm fun welcome, and received a clean comfortable room. I intended walking down town to eat, but the receptionist convinced me to eat dinner at the hotel. Was I lucky I took her advice, my meal was superb, light, tasty with excellent service. The hotel is based in a quiet street with few ameneties, and that suited me fine. When I came to pay the bill, the value just could not be beaten. An excellent hotel in a surprisingly fascinating town.

“LOVED it. Wish I could live there.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

I loved this hotel. I fell head over heals for it as soon as I drove up to it on a pretty tree-lined street. It was just artsy enough to feel congruous with the cultural epicenter of Weimar, without feeling cheap or like they were trying to hard to be trendy. All of the public spaces were very pretty, and my room was clean, well appointed, and had gorgeous windows overlooking said street. My bed was very comfortable, too!
