This is a large but low-rise, modern business hotel. We were on vacation, but I liked the location and price better than other well-rated hotels I read about on TripAdvisor. I was very happy with my choice. We stayed two nights in Room 148, a Deluxe Room (that's their name for the category, two levels above a basic room) in the attractive back wing of the hotel. This was an exceptional value at 109 Euros per night, including VAT and breakfast for two, but not the 2 Euro local room tax.
Dorint is a chain, with their own website. Unlike my other bookings for this Germany trip, my online booking produced no confimation or email. So after two days, I called the hotel itself on the phone, and the desk staff (excellent English) said they had no record of my booking. They instantly mailed me a written proposal for a room, and I called them back the next day to make the booking. I'm glad I brought a printout of the PDF confirmation they sent me because there was a minor, civil dispute on checkout about whether breakfast was included at that excellent price. But the confirmation specifically said so in English, so they graciously took the breakfasts off the bill.
The location is only steps to Goethe's home and the Frauenplan public square. This is also close to the Anna Amalia library, the Liszt music school, and the Stadschloss. There are dozens of restaurants within an easy walk, as is every important old-town site. You can also walk to the old cemetery, with Goethe's grave.
The hotel breakfast is outstanding, even among business hotels. There are at least 15 Meters of buffets, with respectable sections for gluten-free and sugar-free. The waitress brings you coffee of your choice, and there's a largest tea buffet I've ever seen, with pots for your choice. The food was fresh and excellent.
Our room had lots of space, and huge bathroom. Like other hotels on this trip (during an exceptional heat wave, in the US as well as in Europe), it was evident that air conditioning is not engineered to the meat-locker standards we insist on in the US. We left the windows open at night, when it was cool. The full-length sheet curtains kept any mosquitoes out, and we slept well. I closed the windows when the garbage trucks started their routes, but there had been no noisy pedestrians at night in our quiet wing of the hotel. One reason I chose the Dorint is that the "best" hotel (Elephant) in town does not appear to have air conditioning at all, despite its luxury level. I can't verify that fact because we didn't stay there.
The staff was very pleasant, recommending restaurants when we asked. We had a rental car, which was 12 Euros per night. The spotless underground garage is not large, but it looked like the town garage was right beside the hotels, in case they ever run out of auto space.
