“Central location and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

Not really hotel but a very good bed and breakfast. Lunch or dinner is not available, but the breakfast buffet offers a great selection of breads, jams, cheese and cold meets. Serving staff are polite and very observant.

The hotel has a great location, right on the edge of the centre of town, with access to all the major sights within very easy walking distance and some great eateries that serve wonderfully prepared fresh food.

Two things to watch out for, if you get a room to the front of the hotel, it can get a bit noisy at night, and the beds have head and foot boards, so if you're over 190cm tall, the beds will be too short for you.

“Central, good value, accommodating staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

Steps from all the sights of Weimar (Goethehouse, Schillermuseum, etc) this hotel provides a great base for sightseeing. All is within walking distance.
Only a 6euro cab ride from the train station, or you can easily take the bus using the directions on the hotel's web site. Just be aware that there are actuallly two parts to the hotel, the main house which has rooms furnished with period furniture, and a 1920's building right behind which has small appartments. This is where I stayed - very nicely equipped. Staff relocated me upon request from an apartment on the first floor where I would have felt less safe. Wireless internet only in the main building, but worked in the lobby. The hotel is very popular so book early. Breakfast is served in a beautiful airy wintergarden and has everything one could wish for, using local products. Front desk gave excellent recommendation for dinner.

“Very friendly and nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2009

I staid in the Amalienhof for business for three days in February 2009. I liked it a lot: the location is great, the rooms are very nice, the breakfast offers a lot of choices -- but, especially: the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. its a pleasure to stay there. They really took care of everything you could ask for even in hectic and stressful situations.

“excellent choice & good value”

The Amalienhof is surprisingly good in a number of ways. My husband & I got a "double room/apartment" for only 97 euros (I just asked for a double room)--spacious, complete kitchen w/dishes, pans, wine glasses, etc--everything we needed for a pleasant dinner "at home" for a change. It was in a separate building behind the hotel & quiet except for a few (Saturday night) young people out on the street at unfortunate hours. Very nice, positively elegant breakfast included in the hotel. Also, a number of buses stop at the corner in front of the hotel (Wieland Platz)--both from the Hauptbahnhof & to/from Buchenwald (a very worthwhile excursion). Of course, too, you have Goethe for a neighbor & Schiller & the rest of the gang aren't far away. Parenthetically, if you're interested in G & S, I recommend visiting Schiller's Garten Haus in nearby Jena, which gives more of a personal feel, & Goethe's (carefully reconstructed) Frankfurt house where he spent his early years.
