“mixed feelings, but a quiet night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Preface: internet very expensive, about EUR 8/hour, at a reasonable speed !!!! In times like these, internet should be available for free. We spent a holiday in Cambodia and Thailand this July, and rates per hour were less, with some hotels offering WLAN for free, respectively – unbelievable that the Leonardo trails way behind some Asian standard.
Location: huge hotel, about 1 km out off the center / pedestrian zone of Weimar, along Belvederer Allee, that also takes you to the castle of Belvedere, a couple of minutes away (by car);
hotel in a quiet area with front rooms facing a road, and rear rooms local area with villa-style housing, so quiet.
Parking: garage available, parking outside is about EUR 10 per day, cheaper than an hour of internet ;-(
Front-desk: nice welcome, let us move in at 1215 pm, gave me info on prices for the WLAN on the room, however, not mentioning, that the’cheap’ rate is the very slow rate of transmission.
Room: had #545, off the street; two beds in it, furniture you expect in any hotel, offers some space, everything clean, and quiet ! bathroom needs the one and only adjustment (some black and brown stains between tiles, a few only, though)
Breakfast: disappointing, plates and dishes dominate the buffet, in between that 'warehouse-feeling' some limited variety of food for that type of hotel and standard,
so far the least attractive breakfast buffet we’ve had (görlitz/mercure; dresden/elbflorenz; berlin/kanthotel; leipzig/mercure, see reviews);
Staff: first hotel we’ve been in in the recent days where members of the staff don’t greet guests when passing them (e.g. on floor)
but it was quiet in there !

“Close to luxury at very reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

Hotel has a good location, right by the park on the river Ilm, about half a mile from the centre of Weimar. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. Spa area and pool of good size, though slightly unorthodoxly structured with the sauna in the men's changing room - if our experience is anything to go by, the spa/pool only sees little use, we had it all to ourselves for about two hours. Breakfast buffet fantastic with full cooked (scrambled, boiled, and fried eggs), cereals, yoghurts, bread and rolls with cheeses and cut meats, and a selection of fruits. Staff did at times appear slightly below par in helpfulness, we enquired about the possibility of swapping a twin room for a double and am pretty sure that the receptionist never checked availability but merely suggested that we push the beds together. Most encounters were positive, though. Also, it was slightly annoying having to pay 10 euros per night for parking, but there is the possibility of parking for free a few hundred yards away in nearby residential streets.

“Very nice hotel at normal prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

It well deserves its 4 star rating. Only hotel we had with a pool (indoors). We were visiting Holland, Belgium and Germany and stayed in 10 different hotels. This was the nicest of the lot and at no price premium. A little bit outside of town but in a very nice, quiet area. View from hotel room was great. Would have stayed there for the rest of the trip but we had to move on.

“Needing for some staff improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

The Leonardo Weimar (ex-Hilton) is a confortable hotel, with a good location, although 1,5 km from city center. I would not hesitate to recomend this hotel, but you must be aware that some staff, namely in the restaurant (dinner and breakfast) are not the most skilled ones. Their english is basic and their attitude is more adequate to a street restaurant than to a 4 star plus hotel.

For instance, we went to have dinner at 10 p.m. and the restaurant closes at 10.30 p.m.. When we finished our main course we wanted to have some dessert and coffee, but the waiters insisted in give us the bill instead of asking us if we want some dessert, although we insisted several times in having dessert.

The hotel has bowling - which is fine -, but you have to wait "for hours" for someone open the bowling for you to play.

In general, a good hotel with some problems easily solved once the staff receives adequate training for an hotel of this range.

“Great hotel in a fabulous city.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

I really liked this hotel. I did get a very very cheap deal so I suppose I'm slightly biased, but I thought it was great. The room was huge, the beds massive and very comfortable, the bathroom brilliant, the air con very effective, the staff very helpful and I'd definitely recommend it. Quiet too. If you look very carefully, like everything in Weimar, you can see the GDR under the surface - ever so slightly 1970s! But I like that! Strangely retro! The parking on site was not cheap (E6 per night) but there's plenty of free parking in surrounding streets. We didn't eat here so not sure about the food on site. The walk into Wiemar is an almost flat 15 to 20 minutes along a tree-lined road (Weimar has lots of mature trees) and the park opposite is just gorgeous. You can take the bus into the centre from a stop almost opposite the hotel if you don't want to walk or hire a bicycle from the hotel - everyone cycles here. The hotel has a pool but didn't go in it so can't say what it's like. It has wifi also but didn't use it - it's not free. There is a pub/beergarden selling food right next door to this hotel - great food, in fact & brilliant service. So if you're going to Weimar (good choice of city!) then it's a great place to stay.
