“Empfehlenswert. Sort of.”

I stayed in this hotel for four nights in September 2011. My room on the second floor was clean, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was more than adequate. There was plenty of parking space and it was conveniently accessible.

The hotel is some distance from 'downtown' Weimar (about 1.5 km). No problem for the fit and active. For others, bus line 1 stops within steps of the hotel both going and coming at a cost of 1.80 Euros for a single fare one way. Taking a taxi costs about 6 Euros. Of course, one could drive into town. But then there is the hassle of finding a parking spot. I didn't even try. ;)

The bus drive takes about 15 minutes, about the same as it takes to load down a video clip on the hotel's internet connection. With the difference that the bus will make it. How they have the gall to charge for a lousy system like that is beyond me. I should have deducted two points for that.

But I feel generous. :)

“The best hotel we had on this independent touring trip to eastern Germany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Good friendly service. Light and very large room on top floor. Still a bit short on clothes hanging space! And the whole hotel is a bit weary and could do with a thorough deep clean the way they do in Switzerland. But we had fresh towels each day and the staff were doing their best.
Buffet breakfast was excellent and I was provided with gluten-free cereal and delicious warm rolls.
Location is brilliant - all very green in this area of town which is about three bus-stops south of the centre. It is just opposite the Park on the Ilm (Goethe's garden house etc) and it was very pleasant to stroll through the peaceful park after all the sight-seeing. Tip - buy a Weimar card on arrival so you can hop on and off buses and also get reductions at most of the places. It is worth visiting Belvedere just a few stops further on down, or you can bike down using the hotels bikes for another green and beautiful park.

“Two items put me off..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

Pretty good major hotel within about 15 mins walk of Weimar - most directly along the road but through the park is not much further. Got a good deal through laterooms so excellent value, but would have been put off by rack of room and breakfast. Breakfast was one of the best I've had in Germany, not just cold meats/cheese/fruit but cooked breakfast as well: eggs (scrambled/boiled), bacon (streaky), Thuringer sausages (yum!), rosti, and meatballs.
But I was put off by the parking charge: I've not come across a non-city-centre hotel charging €10 a night for parking before (for that I expect them to wash it too), and the internet access price was so ridiculous I didn't even bother trying it. Why do third-world hotels generally have excellent (and free!) internet connections, but hotels in some parts of the "old world" think they can get away with charging the earth for it: for the price that the hotel wants for 2 evenings access you can get a WHOLE MONTH with the local ISP. But was their loss not mine: I just stayed late at the office and did everything from there (and so ate in town), rather than returning to the hotel and using their internet (and eating in their restaurant....)
Oh, and bed was a bit soft so I work up with a sore back.

“Close to the Altstadt of Weimar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

Negative: High parking fees, and no free internet.

Positive: A bus stop very close to this hotel.

Room Tip: If you do not like traffic noice make sure your room does not face the road.

“The lousiest internet service ever”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

I recently stayed at this hotel and it was generally acceptable except for one thing: the internet. It had the worst paid internet service I have seen at any hotel. It was expensive, between about 11 and 16 Euros per 24 hours (regular internet and supposedly faster internet, respectively), usually was extremely slow or nonexistent and often didn't work at all in my room. Several times I had to go out to the hallway in order to connect.
I must say there was a free business center with 2 computers, which was generally occupied by kids on Facebook who cared nothing that an adult might need to use the computer for a minute or two to print a boarding pass, so was also completely useless.
If you need to stay connected, avoid this hotel.
