This is definitely not a hotel to be recommended. I fully agree with the earlier review: sterile atmosphere, even signs of dereliction, filthy restrooms, and staff at the reception turned out to be unfriendly and not really helpful. For some bizarre reason the hotel appears to be 4-star-rated, which is ludicrous. There are certainly much better places to stay in Jena.
Note: We didn't try the restaurant, so this review only concerns the hotel.

I stayed in this hotel based on its long history and 500 years of tradition, it boosts famous guests such as Goethe, Martin Luther and closer to us Bismarck, Willy Brandt, Dietrich Genscher or Otto Grotewohl ... artists such as David Oistrach or Kurt Furtwängler ...
I was expecting an hotel full of atmosphere and with valuable antiques, I found neither ... the hotel biulding is rather uninteresting. The rooms are certainly not bad but pretty standard and plain ...

The restaurant was quite good though, excellent service with very attentive personnel, a good experience.

The hotel is fairly central although not right in the centre.

Jena is an interesting city and a rather well preserved one.
