The Hotel Zumnorde Am Anger is set over 3 floors over shops on Erfurt’s main shopping street. It is close (i.e. a few minutes walking) to all the old town’s many attractions.
We were initially put off by its awfully discrete little entrance in a tiny side street but once in the place one can see that this is a decent, large modern hotel.
We booked a premium room (at a reasonable cost thanks to this site) and were given a vast room of biblical proportions in the top of the hotel.
The bed had the essential attributes of being huge and very comfortable. The place was spotless and extremely quiet. The staff (and the people of Erfurt) couldn’t have been nicer to us.
Good points: a large underground car park, wireless internet connections, air conditioning, big bathroom, two TVs, an over supply of cupboard space and a great location.
No real criticisms for this price. I would have preferred a separate shower to one over the bath. The roof terrace and bar area appeared never used over the few days we were there and of course this is not a hip boutique hotel.
It was so quiet that we thought no one else was in the hotel until we noticed that breakfast seemed busy – I can’t comment on that meal as we always went out to a local café. The hotel is bang up against the town glockenspiel but I never heard it from our room unless I opened the windows.
