This hotel belonged to the Sorat chain but is now part of IBB, which is Spanish; there is just some cooperation left with Sorat. The hotel itself is very much downtown Erfurt, in the medieval part; driving there would be a challenge. It includes two old houses of historical interest (one where the famous German Enlightenment poet and scholar Wieland lived when he was professor in Erfurt), and the rooms in this part are the nicest. But most are in rear wings that are modern (1990s feeling). The hotel is nice, but the rooms can be small, and they are furnished so that one would to stay maximally two nights - there is no cupoboard (just a few shelves with a curtain, and a hanger area likewise very limited) and no safe. The bathroom is very simple and definitely a *** only. Rooms are made to sleep in, not to stay in - unless you get an upgrade or book one of the more luxurious categories. Staff is friendly, breakfast is ample (especially the cold cuts) and long, location is good for tourism, and there is a certain charme to it. If you book it, beware that the hotel changes the prices very frequently and close to market moves; I had to cancel my reservation twice (!) over the course of two weeks to get a better rate (they are not passed on automatically to older reservations, of course). A sigle or double with breakfast should never be over € 90 here.
