“Very basic and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

The hotel is not in the center of Eisenach, rather it is on the outskirts, so having a car is definitely helpful. Unfortunately it has absolutely no character, but……….it is clean, it is inexpensive (comparatively), the breakfast buffet (10 Eu p/p, not included) of typical continental fare of boiled eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, yogurts, cereals, scrambled eggs is decent. Rooms are your basic Danish laminate furniture (i.e. Ik_ _ , fill in the blanks), comforters, showers with combination soap/shampoo dispensers and fairly decent towels. We requested non smoking and the room did not smell of smoke. The receptionist spoke English, was friendly and was very helpful. It’s in a fairly good location to explore the immediate region. If looking for a romantic setting and an ‘old world’ hotel, then this is not the hotel you’d want to stay in, but, if looking for a basic, clean, inexpensive hotel, with free parking, then this is a good place to stay. My only complaint would be the ‘free’ internet which was limited to 40 minutes, after 40 minutes there’s a charge, plus, not all rooms had WiFi, so had to sit in the beakfast/lobby area to connect. It’s easy to find if traveling on Hwy 84, otherwise, it may take a bit of searching. If looking for a cheaper breakfast, or something to eat in the afternoon, there’s a small mall when turning back onto Hwy 84, go left, about 1.5 km, take a right at the roundabout. A grocery store, bakery, and a few fast food type places in the mall.

Room Tip: If WiFi in your room is a necessity, specify a room with WiFi.

“Good Value and Ideally Located for Visiting the Wartburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

This motel offers splendid value for money and is very conveniently located, just off the Autobahn, so that at the end of a long day's driving one doesn't have to search the streets of an unfamiliar town to find it. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and well appointed - see photographs. There was adequate car-parking. I stayed two nights and the breakfast each morning was excellent. The motel is situated about two miles outside Eisenach town and about four from the Wartburg - which is well worth a visit. I recommend this motel unreservedly.

The Wartburg is a wonderful medieval castle which played a key role in German history and provided the inspiration for Ludwig II of Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein. It was the home of St. Elizabeth of Hungary (here called Elizabeth of Thuringia, as she was married to the Duke of the same), scene of the medieval Minnesinger contests and of Wagner’s Tannhäuser and the place where Luther translated the New Testament. It was restored - somewhat artificially - in the nineteen century under the inspiration of Goethe and was the location of the first call for German Unification - by a gathering of German Student Corps in 1817. The interior could only be seen as part of a guided tour but the guide proved possibly the best I’ve ever encountered - can actor rather than a guide, with a wonderfully expressive voice, clear enunciation and a fund of information which made the place really live. In the museum section there was a huge amount related to Luther, including originals of many of his pamphlets and numerous woodcut handbills of the period.

“probably the best value for money in the area, but don't expect miracles”

I have now been to the Ibis Eisenach several times on business and what I like about this hotel the most is the consistency of its price-value performance. This hotel is a no frills house, offers basic facilities, plenty of parking places, and a decent, filling, non-fancy breakfast. The service is also of a good standard. The staff is polite and can communicate well in English. Last time, when I received a smoking room by mistake and complained, it took them 5 minutes to move me and my luggage to a non-smoking room. When it comes to a short-stop, good value for money hotel, I wouldn't think twice if these guys can keep up their performance.

“Good hotel for one night (business etc)”

An OK hotel that does what it says on the tin. You can get a good night sleep here in a fairly modern room with a hearty breakfast in the morning. The room i had was non smoking but still smelt of old cigarettes, but was clean and modern. The location of the hotel is a bit out of the way and having a car to get food in the evening is a must.
