“Very pleased with stay at A-ROSA Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

My wife and I stayed at the A-Rosa Resort-Travemunde for 3 nights in late August, 2007. We had some business in Hamburg and we thought we would take a few days at the spa to relax.

We were very pleased with the property overall and enjoyed our stay. The staff was very pleasant and professional and all spoke good English, which was helpful since my German is not too good. We had a room facing the garden (not a sea-view), but the room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. The shower was very nice, but there was no tub for bathing. When you book at this property, you sign up for breakfast and dinner which is included in the price. We were satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food, with several alternative main courses, salads, etc. The dining room got a little hectic during the peak dinner hour(s) but overall not too distracting. Breakfast was also good. Beer and other alcoholic beverages are extra and resort-priced, and can run up your tab quickly if you're too enthusiastic. You can opt to have dinner at the more upscale restaurant, Buddenbrooks, which entails an additional fee. We did not since we were pleased with the food in the common dining room and didn't see the need to expend the extra money (we are not gourmands).

The facilities (spa, fitness area, indoor pools, etc.) were exceptional, spacious, clean and well-maintained. My wife and I indulged in some spa services (massage, facial for the wife) and while we were very pleased with the service, the prices were high -- especially after converting the rate to USD. Nevertheless, we were very satisfied with the services rendered and the personnel rendering the services. All were very pleasant and professional.

My only complaint was that I ordered a mixed drink (martini) from the main bar and it was terrible. After mentioning my disappointment in the drink to the attendant, she only said that it was from a new bottle and didn't offer any other remediation. The proper thing to have done, in my view, would have been to remove the cost of the drink from the bill. I didn't pursue it, but you'd be wise to stick to beer and wine and not test the prowess of the bartender.

In sum, I would definitely return to this property and was pleased with the stay. The A-Rosa is not cheap, and especially so if ultimately paying in USD. However, we still felt we got good value for our dollars.

“very relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2007

just returned from a 4 nite stay my wife convinced me to and i must say i am positively impressed. have been to other spa resorts, and this one really is just very well balanced with everything, including guests, from 5-80. the hotel:

-very friendly staff
-great and impressive building
-very nice social rooms, 2 bars, a library, grandhotel character
-great rooms (stayed parkside 4th floor with a little balcony, where you get sun pm) very functional, loads of stowage opportunities, free bottle of water per day.
-the spa is just amazing, and enough space, so no sqeeying in or so.
-great gym with brandnew equipment
-good fitness classes
-costly but excellent treartments
-buffet - i am not a buffet person, but it was very good, including a small but fine and dailky varying wine choice. all softdrinks are included in halfboard price. we went to the buddenbrock one michelin star restaurant one night, and it was very good. for othe buffet haters there is the weinwirtschaft, a little wine and tapas bar also.

not easy to find negatives, here's what i can come up with:
- parking at 10 € ( TIP: you can park cross the street for 3€ per day.) should be included at this kind of resort
- whilst breakfast is great and very versatile , including daily changing themes (apricot, strawberry,...) fruit at breakfast is mostly not fresh cut, but industry stuff.
- some might say 260-340 € per night is not a bargain, but considering the room, the density of avaipable staff, the spa, the gym, the classes, the food, the free softdrinks, ... i would like to rephrase: not cheap, but definetely priceworthy

bottomline : go there - it is extremely relaxing

TIP : having stayed twice: parkside is cheaper and calmer. seaview is off course nicer viewwise, but count on bus-noise, concert noise from the opposite plaza. so save the money, reinvest in a treatment

“Just beautiful”

This hotel is a jewel! It is not only beautifully furnished and well kept, but also has a very good spa and nice restaurants.

Also the weather was terrible during the entire stay, we were fully content and relaxed. Since hotel faces the seaside, in summer there is plenty to enjoy outdoors, also the nearby town of Lübeck is beautiful to visit.

“Nice hotel, great location but unsatisfactory service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2006

My husband and I stayed at the Grand SPA Resort A-ROSA in Travemunde last August for holiday.
Our holiday has been a trip in north Europe, we made 2 stops in Travemunde in this hotel (one going to and one coming back from Copenhagen).

The hotel is enough luxury in modern stile and is totally new (opened in September 2005).
Situated directly in front of the sea. It is close to Lubecca. A first class location for exclusive well-being holidays at the Baltic Sea.
The address is: Grand SPA Resort A-ROSA Travemuende - Außenallee 10 - D-23570 Luebeck-Travemuende - Phone +---- Fax +---- – ---
We have choose this hotel because it is recommended by Michelin Guide in the category “top class comfort”.

The fist time (13/08/2006) we stayed for 1 night and our room was n°323, with park view (behind the hotel there is a big park) and we paid Euro 258,00 per day half-board included.
The second time (19 and 20 August 2006) we stayed for 2 nights in a sea view room. The sea view was better. Both rooms were large, with beautiful furniture. We paid for the sea view room Euro 330,00 per day in half-board and the room was n° 334.
Both rooms were very nice, they had modern and comfortable equipments with telephone, cable television, radio, internet-access, safe, bath, toilet, bathrobe, hair dryer, illuminated cosmetic mirror, towel heater.

In this hotel half-board is a must even for one night, and in our opinion this is not good.
The restaurant is a buffet, there are many corners where they prepare food for all the people, so you are always in queue. Another problem was the staff in the restaurant, that speaks a very little English . In the hotel there was another restaurant (not with buffet) but you had to pay a supplement.

The hotel has big SPA and is in a very nice location. There is a large swimming pool (indoor and outdoor pool with sea water). Exclusive original thalasso-centre with sea water supply . The hotel had a lot of free bicycles at guest’s disposal .

After dinner there were a big bar, where you could drink and listen to live music, and this is very nice.

The only disappointment was about cleaning staff in ours room.
When we arrived at the hotel, our room was cleaned but the second day our room has not been cleaned. After we complained, the room was cleaned only at five p.m.
But the room has been cleaned very badly, no sheets change, no cleaning of the floor.
Unacceptable by this hotel, because it is a high level one.
May be this is due to August crowd, but anyway unacceptable.
It is a pity.
